OneThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomplayer has built a large, pilotable mechanical fish within the game. The creation quickly gained traction online, serving as yet another reminder of the creative possibilities thatTears of the Kingdomoffers.
The latest installment inThe Legend of Zeldaseriescelebrated its second anniversary on May 12. While it’s pushing three,Tears of the Kingdomstill boasts a lively community of tinkerers who enjoy spending countless hours experimenting with its building mechanics and sharing the results of their efforts with others.
Kmarkow, one of the most prolific creators on the aptly named r/HyruleEngineering subreddit, recently shared a new creation: a large mechanical fish vehicle. The design was inspired by a 2023 sea creature concept from Reddit user Uoma_Never_Seen, who also developed agiant mechanical goose inTears of the Kingdom.
Kmarkow’s Fish Build Relies on a TOTK Enlargement Glitch
Kmarkow’s contraption makes use of the Tenoko island boat, a unique component that can be found in the southeastern part of Hyrule, located inTears of the Kingdom’s Necluda Sea. This particular boat has long been regarded as the best base for creating naval vessels in the game, largely due to its impressive buoyancy. The creator made use of the so-called Moe enlargement glitch to modify several components during the build process. This is a relatively new glitch that’s only been documented in 2025.
Kmarkow’s TOTK Mechanical Fish Component List
As a recent discovery, the Moe enlargement glitch remains functional in the latestTears of the Kingdombuild, identified by version number 1.2.1. With Nintendo having last updated the game in August 2023, it appears unlikely the glitch will be patched. However, it is unclear whether all currently working glitches will carry over to the upcomingSwitch 2 Edition ofTears of the Kingdom, which will be available as a paid upgrade for existing owners or a standalone release starting June 5, coinciding with the upcoming console’s launch.
The rest of Kmarkow’s build uses fairly common components, including a handful of Zonai Sleds repurposed as the mechanical fish’s fins. The design also incorporates three Construct Hands and a trio of Zonai Fans, among other parts. In total, the structure consists of 18 items, three short of the game’s 21-component limit. The mechanical fish hence has room for additional features. For instance, the concept offers just enough leeway for expanding it with a cannon, which can be made to auto-target enemies when attached to a Construct Head.
