When using the kitchen and the Workshop’s crafting bench inThe Alters, players may have noticed there are two options in the form of Uphold, and Infinite Uphold. While players will see the selected item move into the processing queue, it’s not immediately clear how these options work and what they do. However, when things start to busy up later in the game, both options can become incredibly useful for ensuring Jan and his various alters get the resources crafted that they need each day to survive in their quest to get off the planet alive.
In this guide, I’ll explain everything you need to know about the Uphold and Infinite Uphold options inThe Alters.

What Are Uphold and Infinite Uphold in The Alters?
Handy Crafting Options for Your Key Consumables
The Uphold and Infinite Uphold options can be found at the top of the crafting screens when in the workshop or kitchen when an ‘Available Item’ is selected. These essentially prevent players from having to go back into these menus each time and select items that they want their Alters to be working on when the player is out completing other quests on the planet.
Infinite Uphold will permanently pin the item to that position in the queue, and will have the alter operating that machine constantly craft that item until no more can be made due to a lack of materials.

The Uphold option works similarly, but pressing it once will mean that the item is only worked on once players don’t have any more of the item in their inventory. If they press Uphold again, it’ll add another one to the Uphold number, shown above the item in the ‘Queue’ for that particular production line. For example, if it says 29, and players have 23 of that item in their inventory, the queue will allow six of that item to be made to give a total of 29 in the inventory.
Once one is used, the Uphold will then allow that item to be crafted again. You can see an example in the screenshots above.

This can be very useful for things like food or radiation filters, which players will use a lot throughout the game, and can land them in trouble if they run out.
I preferred to use the Uphold option, rather than Infinite Uphold, as it gave me more control of how my core materials, such asorganics, metals, and rapidium, were being used. There is nothing worse than one of the Alters using all of a player’s metals, when they need them to craft an important piece of gear or base module to progress the story.
