When you play online,Mario Kart Worldplayers will see a number next to each of the game modes in the Online Play menu, and numbers next to every player’s name at theend of every race in the gamewhen online.
At the start, this number should be 3000, but as youcontinue to play with others online, this number will increase. This guide explains what the online play number means inMario Kart Worldand how this number is tracked and calculated across all game modes.
What Do Online Play Numbers Mean In Mario Kart World?
In the Online Play main menu and after completing a race, you will see a number by each game mode and by every other player’s name in the server list, respectively.
These online play numbers inMario Kart Worldrepresent player ratings, otherwise known as versus rating.
How Is Player Rating Calculated In Mario Kart World?
When you complete an online race, your player rating will increase based on your position. The higher you place in a race, the more player ratingMario Kart Worldwill reward you with. However, even if you finish in the back of the pack – or dead last – you will always gain a little bit of player rating if you are at a low rank.
If you finish first, you will usually get several hundred player rating points. If you finish last, you will usually get a few dozen player rating points.
As your player rating increases, you will start to lose points if you lose races, but while you are in the sub-7000s you should always earn some rating after each match.
Does Versus Rating Increase More At High Rank?
The higher your personal player rating, the less your player rating will increase when youfinish races inMario Kart World.
For instance, in the screenshot above, one player finished 5th and received 72 points, while the player in 6th earned more than 300. The 5th-place player already had a player ranking of more than 7000, while the 6th-place player had a rating of just 3000.
As such, the lower-rank player was rewarded more for placing high, while the higher-rank player received less player rating for placing higher.
