New series have to rise to take their place if Shonen Jump wants to recover.
Shonen Jump Sales Drop After Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia End
Shonen Jump Two of Its Biggest Series
Weekly Shonen Jump is one of the biggest manga publications in Japan. Shonen Jump is home to many of the most iconic manga series ever, such asNaruto, One Piece, andDragon Ball.
However, with time, good stories come to an end, and as always, Jump has to find new series to keep the magazine going, with the only real long series currently in there beingOne Piece, its biggest hit.
Even with One Piece aside, Shonen Jump has, or had at least, some other pretty big hits. The two biggest series after One Piece that they hadwere undoubtedlyJujutsu KaisenandMy Hero Academia. These two series are household names in the shonen world.
Sadly, however, both of these series ended around the same time, which is anything but good news for Shonen Jump, as these were some of its biggest series.Jujutsu Kaisen’smanga concluded at the end of September 2024, whileMy Hero Academiawas completed in early August, 2024, about a month earlier.
Ever since then, Shonen Jump has definitely been impacted badly. Shonen Jump saw a decrease in sales since the series ended.
Between July and September, Shonen Jump’s sales were 1,098,231. Meanwhile, after they ended, with the most recent number being for December of 2024, the new number was 1,075,000. This is a drop of about 23000 copies in circulation overall.
Who Will Replace Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia?
A Few Series Have The Potential
With these big series having ended, fans might wonder who will take their spot and rise in Shonen Jump, and perhaps become a household name. There are a few series with potential, but nothing too crazy, especially as manga series have been getting shorter and shorter these last years.
Sakamoto Days is a pretty popular seriesin Shonen Jump, however, its lackluster anime adaptation holds it back greatly, which is definitely unfortunate. In addition, the manga doesn’t have that much left, it seems.
Another series peoplehave been hyping up isKagurabachi, as the series reminds many ofJujutsu Kaisenand also features great fights.
A relatively new series that could make it mainstream someday isIchi The Witch. The manga is still in its early phase, but eventually, when it gets an anime adaptation, it could become a hit.
Available on Manga Plus
The two big series, Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia, concluded in 2024. This means that fans can now go and finish the story, if interested, in the manga. Both mangas in their entirety are available to read onManga Plus, where they were available weekly prior to their conclusion.
