These situations usually come in one of two forms: untimed dialogue options, and the special timed lie mechanic. While the game often makes the special lie system feel like its outcomes are exceptionally important, the truth is that choosing ‘wrong’ in both systems can have negative effects. Here, we will be looking at an example of the basic option system, specifically the choice that comes directly after the Veronique boss fight in Chapter 2. Salute Veronique: Best Choice – Lies of P Overture
While some players might not find these choices as intriguing as thenew weapons inLies of P Overture,they can actually be quite important to the overall narrative of both the base game and theOvertureDLC. TheVeronique Salutechoice fits this bill perfectly, as picking a specific option can affect P’s overall humanity level.
You’ll approach Veronique midway through Chapter 2, not far from the Coolant Control Room Stargazer. Veronique can be a serious challenge, especially when you play on theLegendary Stalker difficulty level. For this guide, the pertinent moment comes when you defeat Veronique. Not long after she falls, you should see a dialogue box appear that presents the following two options:
Leave without saluting Veronique:
If you decide to leave without saluting Veronique – which may seem like the best choice at first glance, given she was trying to kill you – you will still receivemostof the items you’d receive if you choose to salute her. This includes the following items:
Choosing this option, you won’t miss out on much. That is, you won’t miss out if you have been playing with the goal of stifling P’s humanity. Essentially, if youchoose not to salute Veronique, you’ll simply get her basic items (excluding her weapon), and can move on to the remainder of Chapter 2.
Salute Veronique:
If youchoose to salute Veronique,you’ll get the same list of items listed above, but you will also get one very additional item:Veronique’s WIll.This will not only provide an important piece of lore, but also provide a significant boost to P’s humanity level. This is the major difference between the two choices.
What it boils down to is this: Salute Veronique, especially if you are on your first playthrough, and are playing before you finish the base game. This is especially true if your goal is to increase P’s humanity. Do not salute Veronique if you do not care about P’s humanity, or are actively trying to keep it low.
How to Trigger Veronique’s Salute Option in Lies of P Overture
While researching the most common choices made in this situation, we discovered that not every player received the option to salute Veronique. The exact reason for this seems to be currently unknown. It is possible that P’s humanity level may have something to do with it, or your choice at the end of the game. We received the option and ourOvertureplaythrough was on a New Game Plus save file. We startedOvertureas soon as we could in Chapter 9. If we receive any clarification, we’ll be sure to update this guide.
