Karan Soni Shares A Funny Story About Being “Starstruck” By His Miracle Workers Costar Daniel Radcliffe
In an interview withThe AV Club,Karan Soni shared that he was “starstruck"when he auditioned forMiracle Workers, the hilarious anthology series that ran for four seasons. He said that the auditions took place at the offices of Broadway Video and when he saw Daniel Radcliffe through the glass, he realized that he was flustered. But,instead of telling theHarry Potterstar that he was a huge fan, he took a more unique approach. Soni explained:
“in my twenties, I would do this thing where if I was really a fan of someone, I would be mean to them. I wouldn’t be nice because it was almost like I doubled down, so I would be ice-cold and pretend I didn’t know anything about them because I worried if I said even one thing, it would just blurt out in a creepy way.”
Soni decided that he would act as if he had never heard of theHarry Potterfranchise, and he asked, “What’s that?” when it was brought up. After that moment, he kept up the bit, and explained:
“The entire time I’m like,oh, no, what have I just started? Because now I have to pretend that I’ve lived in a world where I don’t know whatHarry Potteris—the books, movies, anything.”
Soni eventually told Radcliffe that he was of course familiar with theHarry Potterfranchise. Radcliffe replied that he thought so, and it was fine to ask him questions. Soni thenwatched all the moviesand they had some detailed and interesting conversations. The story is not only funny but also fairly relatable as many would likely find themselves unsure of what to say if they met Radcliffe. The actor is likely used to people sharing how much they loved watching him play the magical character.
