Summary

In November and December 2025, it will finally be time to say goodbye toNetflix’sStranger Things, andI know exactly what TV show fans can watch in the meantime.WhenStranger Thingsseason 4 concluded, viewers anticipated a huge battle between good and evil, and that’s definitely going to be the focal point of the final season. Since season 1 premiered in July 2016, it’s been almost ten years since this epic story began, and hopefully, big questions about the Upside Down will get answered.

Although of courseStranger Thingsis one of the most popular sci-fi series, especially when it comes to stories focused on strong and smart teenage characters, another show might be even more intriguing. I recommend it every chance I get and am still thinking aboutthe singular premise and eerie tone.

Cass (Rachel Pressler) and Ellie (Kathryn Newton) on The Society

I Think Stranger Things Fans Should Watch The Society, Which Has An 86% Rotten Tomatoes Score

Stranger Thingsfans would enjoyThe Society, a teen mystery series that has one season on Netflix. The series premiered on the streaming service in March 2019 and, unfortunately, only had 10 episodes. However, these 10 episodes make for a quick, fun, and intense binge-watching experience.

The Societyhas a high Rotten Tomatoes score of 86%, which is only a little lower thanStranger Things, which has a 92% rating. The story dives intothe gripping and eerie journey of teenagers in West Ham, Connecticut, who realize one day that all the adults in their small town are missing. The show has it all: leaders, followers, family, friendships, shocking moments, and plenty of emotion. Kathryn Newton, who starred inChristopher Landon’s body swap slasher comedyFreaky, played Allie Pressman, my favorite character onThe Society. She has a complicated bond with her older sister Cassandra (Rachel Keller), and she finds her confidence as she navigates an unsettling new world.

Will, Helena and Allie on The Society

If fans are looking for a show to fill the void beforeStranger Thingsseason 5 comes back in November, or they want a particularly intriguing supernatural story,The Societyis a great bet. I’d argue thatThe Societyis even better than the Hawkins-set story for two reasons, mainly because the premise is so captivating. It’s exciting to see Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and I’m interested in the final battle between Eleven, her friends, and this epic villain. But I still can’t stop thinking about the creepy small town of West Ham, several years after the show arrived on Netflix. I also appreciate howThe Society’s premise forces the show to focus on the teenage characters and their terrifying plight. The show doesn’t feel cluttered with too many characters or villains, and it’s well-done.

Of course, sinceThe Societyonly had 10 episodes, there wasn’t enough time for frustrating plot holes or confusing moments that were never explained. But, while I thinkthe supernatural mystery ofYellowjacketsshould remain just that, I believe thatThe Societyseason 2 would have given fans the answers they wanted. The show was moving in that direction, andthe well-crafted season 1 finale gave fans some significant information.

The Society Was Cancelled Before Season 2, But It Deserved More

WhileNetflix renewedThe Societyfor a second season in May 2019, it was cancelled in 2020. Christopher Keyser, the show’s creator, toldVariety, “This wasn’t a normal cancellation. This wasn’t about not having the audience or we didn’t believe in it anymore. There was a global crisis that changed all of our lives in the one year we were able to make it." Keyser also shared that he and the writers planned to write a graphic novel with the same plotline that would have encompassed season 2, but when the publisher closed down, that didn’t happen.

Some TV cancellations feel particularly unfair, and fans definitely felt that way afterlearning thatThe Wheel of Timewas over. It’s tough whena show only has one seasonbecause it doesn’t feel like a complete story. I was sad whenThe Societywas canceled and thinkthe show needs at least one more season to flesh out the main mystery and provide more answers.

In an interview withIndieWire, Keyser talked abouthow the dramatic relationships between the characters would continue in a possibleThe Societyseason 2. He said:

“New Ham under new leadership, [and] that’s not very stable because it’s a triumvirate of three people, none of who trust anyone else in that triumvirate. How that’s going to work and whether they will work together or will begin to undermine each other, we don’t know.”

While it doesn’t seem likely, fans would love ifThe Societyseason 2 came to fruition sometime, and I’m definitely in that group.
