Summary
Netflix’sThe Sandmanis all set to awake from its three-year hibernation this summer as Dream, Death, Destiny, and the rest of the Endless make their return, but before season 2 airs, Netflix has treated fans to a first look at new characters Puck and Destruction. The Sandmangraphic novels were created by Neil Gaiman, which ran from 1989 to 1996 and were published by DC Comics. Even thoughThe Sandmanwas going to be made into a movie in 1991, it went through development hell for years, and the adaptation wasn’t to be. Fast-forward to 2019, Warner Bros decided to shift its focus to television instead of the big screen and signed a Netflix deal to produce the series.
Over thirty years on from the graphic novel beginnings,The Sandmanpremiered on the small screen in 2022 and, due to its success with DC audiences, the show was thenrenewed for a second season. News of the show’s second season was greatly received by its fanbase, who were excited to experience more of its supernatural fantasy narratives. WithThe Sandmanseason two releasing on Netflix in two parts in just a few months, the summer of 2025 seems to be the right time for many old and new faces to return to the mystical world of The Dreaming.
The Sandman Season 2 Serves up a First Look at Puck and Destruction
Announced in July last year, fans of the fantasy show will already know thatJack Gleesonwill join the cast of the second season ofThe Sandmanas Puck, but now,Entertainment Weeklyhas shown off some new images of the character, as well as Barry Sloane’s Destruction. Gleeson will forever be known for his role as King Joffrey Baratheon inGame of Thrones, but after more than a decade since the cruel and calculating character met his demise in the series, Jack Gleeson is now ready to take on another fantasy series. Puck fromThe Sandmancomics is described as a troublesome and dangerous shapeshifting creature from Celtic mythology. Although Netflix hasn’t revealed anything regarding Puck’s narrative in the show, it seems as though Gleeson can’t get away from causing a scene wherever he goes.
Fans have also received a closer look at Barry Sloane’s Destruction, who is described as one of the friendliest of all the Endless and more of a peacemaker than a troublemaker. When the universe began, he was formed as the anthropomorphic personification of destruction and creation. To the ancient Greeks, he was also known as Olethros. Some fans of the show may remember Sloane from the ABC drama seriesRevengeand playing Ser Adrian Redfort, a knight who supports Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, inHouse of the Dragon.
Just like what Netflix has decided to do withWednesdayseason 2,The Sandmanseason 2 will also be released in two different batches of episodes, starting with the first six episodes premiering on June 13, 2025, and the remaining five episodes arriving on July 21, 2025. This method is a pretty good plan for Netflix as it will ensure viewers will want to keep their subscriptions going a little while longer.
