Summary

Dune: Awakeningcombines an MMO with RPG and survival game elements, where players have to gather a certain amount of materials and tools to get started. TheTutorial, which starts from the moment the player crashes on Arrakis, shows players how to make basic tools and which resources they need to gather.

This eventually leads to learning how to build basic machinery and a home base; however, before players can do any of that, they need to learn some fundamentals. Justtraveling at this early pointin the game can be deadly, with giant worms lurking beneath the sands, and Outworlders have to watch more than their step. Players will need to get their hands on theseearly tutorial items inDune: Awakeningto have success heading into the main part of the game.

Dune Awakening scrap metal knife

7Scrap Metal Knife

For Fighting And Exploring

Only a few steps from where they regain consciousness, players pick up a backpack and some scrap metal. Three pieces of scrap metal are all that’s required to make aScrap Metal Knife, and this simple knife becomes an essential tool and a primary weapon.

Players have to use their knife to cut through the membranes in cave mouths, whichallows them to advance. Once they seek out more valuable materials, they’ll encounter bandits and scavengers who are competing for the same resources, and the knife is a handy melee weapon until the player can make something more effective.

Dune Awakening vegetation-1

6Dew Flowers

First Method Of Hydration

After leaving the cave and traveling towards some ideal places to forage, the player comes across hardyDew Flowersflowers, which can be used as a source of moisture. This is essential for surviving the early parts of the game because the player cannot extract water from blood or bodies yet.

It’s advisable to keep a small patch of these nearby, either when exploring, salvaging, or building, so the player can hydrate when needed. A drawback to this method is that the raw water from the plants can make the player sick, so there’s only so much they can use. Once they can harvest the plants and purify blood, this process gets easier.

Dune Awakening plant fiber

5Plant Fiber

A Basic Crafting Material

After crafting a Scrap Metal Knife with spare, salvaged parts, the player learns how to make another important item, but this one out ofPlant Fiber. Aside from the Dew Flowers, the other plants growing here yield Plant Fiber, which can be used to make Bandages.

This crafting material is also used to make basic clothingbefore the player learnsthe schematic for a real Fremen Stillsuit or how to build a Blood Purifier. The Makeshift Clothing is the first set of protective clothing the player can make, and it’s made of Plant Fiber.

Dune Awakening healkit

4Healkit

Essential For Survival

The player must be at least partially hydrated to use Bandages, and they only restore about a quarter of the character’s health, but during the Tutorial portion of the game, this is the only method of healing available. Stockpile and store them because it’s wise to harvest plenty of Plant Fiber anyway, and it’s worth making a few extra Bandages for future use.

Healkitsare the second item that players learn to make after the Scrap Metal Knife, which gives the player an idea of how useful they are. The first time they face an enemy, they’ll only have a Scrap Metal Knife and Healkits, and it’s a tough way to start, but a Fremen can handle it.

Dune Awakening scavenger camp

3Salvaged Metal

For Weapons And Equipment

The player doesn’t know how to mine and refine ore yet during the tutorial ofDune: Awakening, so they have to do the best they can withSalvaged Metal. This is used to make virtually every tool, appliance, and weapon for the next stage of the tutorial, which alsoconsists of building a baseto store all of it in.

The beacon that players can build and use as a respawn point is one of the first items made with Scrap Metal, and there’s a tutorial quest that requires building one and setting it in the new base. Another important tool is the Cutteray, which has several uses for gathering and crafting.

Dune Awakening cutteray

2Cutteray

Used For Higher Volume Salvage

TheCutterayis more than a handy tool used for mining and salvage. It can also be used to analyze a building or barrier and discover its structural weaknesses. There is one section of the tutorial dedicated solely to learning how to use the Cutteray, as it’s essential to the crafting and building process.

Without the Cutteray, the character can’t advance through the tutorial, which leads through the wreckage of their crashed ship. The Cutteray is used for mining rocks, cutting scrap, and breaking through barriers, and is just as useful as any weapon.

Dune Awakening pistol

1Maula Pistol

The First Ranged Weapon

It’s not the most impressive or deadly weapon, but for ranged targets, it gets the job done, and the game’s targeting system makes this even more useful. Making aMaula Pistolrequires a certain amount of Scrap Metal and is one of the steps in the tutorial that coincides with building a base.

Once the player has to face bandits and scavengers, some of them will also have ranged weapons. There are upgraded schematicsfor much better pistols and rifles later on, but for the tutorial, this is the only ranged weapon available.
