While most Quirks in the world ofMy Hero Academiaare designed to help and assist others in need, not every unique ability follows this trend. Now and again, there will be Quirks that appear, which are inherently a little more selfish in how they work. Needless to say, this can be less than ideal for up-and-coming heroes, considering their role as the protectors of society, but it certainly isn’t all that bad for a villain who simply wants to cause as much chaos as possible.
While there have been a few Quirks seen throughout the series that eventually become more selfless after the user puts in enough time and effort, this isn’t as easy to accomplish for those that entirely revolve around enhancing the user themselves rather than anyone else. With that being said, here are the most selfish Quirks seen throughout the immensely popularMy Hero Academiaanime series.
6Muscle Augmentation
Muscular Turns Into A Rampaging Brute When His Quirk Is Switched On
Just as the name implies, Muscle Augmentation is a Quirk that greatly enhances Muscular’s physical strength and durability, turning him into a giant brute anytime he decides to activate it, which is very often. Considering the absurd levels of power it grants to the user, Muscle Augmentation is entirely focused on turning Muscular into a terrifying killing machine rather than having any extra additions or abilities that could help out others.
Muscular uses this to his advantage to mercilessly kill numerous high-standing heroes, including Water Hose, a hero duo who just so happened to be the parents of Koda. In the end, Deku would succeed in stopping Muscular’s rampage, at least for a little while, but his powerful and selfish Quirk ensures that he can still hold his own against most opponents who dare to face him.
5Brainwash
Shinso Is Able To Influence A Person’s Mind And Body In Any Way He Desires
Despite wanting to become a hero, Shinso had a rough time growing up in the academy due to the selfishness of his Quirk, Brainwash. As a student who’s able to creep his influence into a person’s mind and control their actions, many people look down on Shinso as someone who possesses an ability more fitting for a villain, considering Shinso could cause all kinds of chaos if he decided to go down that road.
Though he was able to find unique ways to use his Quirk while in the line of duty, it’s still inherently very self-centered, considering it gives maximum control to Shinso over his opponent. That being said, it’s also extremely strong, as shown when Shinso was able to control themenacing Gigantomachiaduring the final war.
4Stress
A Quirk Which Reacts To The User’s Emotional Distress And Discomfort
Re-Destro, the leader ofthe Meta Liberation Army, actually tries to keep his Quirk under wraps for as long as he can in the story, though it’s not long until it inevitably shows itself after he gets a little worked up and irritated. Any time Re-Destro starts to become stressed, black goo will start to cover his body until, eventually, he mutates into a beastial version of himself where all he can think about is crushing his opponents into the ground with hard-hitting attacks and abilities.
Stress is a rather unpredictable Quirk, as it only reacts to the user’s emotional stress levels, so Re-Destro can be prone to losing control of it every now and again. In this sense, its only purpose is to amplify Re-Destro himself so that he can maintain his prestigious position without any enemies of his ideology interfering or taking him down.
3Transform
Toga’s Dangerous Quirk Led Her Down The Path To Becoming A Villain
As a child, Toga had a very unhealthy obsession with consuming blood, whether that be from animals or even humans. The reason for this was that her Quirk, Transformation,requires Toga to consume bloodto keep it in check, and for it to even work at all. Considering she was quickly deemed an outcast by her own family and society at large, it eventually resulted in Toga choosing to use her Quirk for the sake of villainy.
Once Toga drinks a person’s blood, she will be able to transform into them whenever she wants. Early on in the story, she uses this to disguise herself as Cammie as a way to infiltrate the students' exams. A little later, she would even learn how to steal a person’s Quirk after she turns into them, which she uses the full effect when transforming into her old friend Twice. It’s not a Quirk that is going to be helping out civilians in danger any time soon, but one which still makes Toga a truly dangerous villain to deal with.
2Super Regeneration
Garaki’s Nomu Survived A Barrage Of Punches From All Might Thanks To Its Quirk
This Quirk is one that only shows up very briefly during the earlyU.S.J. story arc, where it is used by the Nomu who confronts Deku and the other heroes alongside the League of Villains. Considering Nomus are handcrafted by Dr. Garaki, the maniacal scientist was able to implant a Quirk into this specific Nomu, which grants it super-regenerative abilities, meaning no matter how much damage someone is able to inflict, it will be patched up in mere seconds.
Even All Might, the most powerful hero in all of Japan, was only barely able to overcome their regenerative properties after throwing a lightning-fast barrage of punches to take down the Nomu once and for all. As a Quirk which makes the user almost invincible, it’s safe to say it’s not an ability which would be much use for a hero, but a perfect one for a villain.
1All For One
All For One Ruins People’s Lives While Benefiting The User
All For One, the overarching villain of the entire series, has used his Quirk of the same name to utterly ruin thousands of people’s lives over the course of his career. Because the ability allows him to steal a person’s Quirk, it means that by the time he appears in the main story,All For One already has an arsenal of unique abilitiesto choose from. However, the people he targets will be left completely Quirkless, and, as shown by Ragdoll, this can be disastrous for heroes since it forces them to retire.
On the other hand, though, All For One also isn’t shy about killing someone off after he steals their ability. So long as it makes him stronger and improves his chances of survival, he will steal as many abilities as he needs to. Unlike One For All, which encourages the user to use their abilities for the sake of good, All For One is inherently selfish and has caused a significant amount of pain and suffering throughout the story.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the “One-For-All” quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
