Summary

Game of Thronesis a seriesfull of amazing characters that fans love. However, the series hasn’t shied away from showing both sides of the coin, hammering in its dark fantasy roots with some devious characters who can be cruel, power-hungry, malicious, or a combination of these negative tropes and many others.

Game of Thrones Poster

8Locke

The Rampant Cruelty Of This Man Is Hard To Stomach

He may not have been around for long, butLockemakes himself one of the most despicable people in the series with a simple act. He and his goons almost taking advantage of Brienne was bad enough, but his hate for royalty led to one of the most shockingGame of Thronesmoments and a major turning point for Jaime’s character.

After the proud Lannister was unable to stop his tongue from rolling out insult after insult, he was punished with a gruesome act of mutilation as his hand was unceremoniously chopped off by Locke. Losing his dominant sword hand crushed Jaime, who had to train with a sword for a long time before his remaining hand was up to the task.

7Stannis Baratheon

A Foolish Ruler Who Sacrificed His Daughter On The Whims Of A Witch

Regardless ofStannis' right to rule, the way he went about achieving this goal was horrid. He took the advice of the Red Woman, Melisandre, and performed a heinous act that made him irredeemable in the eyes of many.

While Davos was away,he burned his daughter, Shireen, aliveto increase his chances of taking the Iron Throne. This turned out to be a mistake, and his daughter was sacrificed for nothing as Stannis and his pathetic army were obliterated by Roose Bolton’s forces.

6Olly

Out Of All The People Who Stabbed Jon, Olly Was The Worst

It’s funny just how hateableOllybecame in such a short span of time. He shot the arrow that killed Ygritte and always harbored hatred against Jon Snow because of how cozy he was getting with the Wildlings who killed his parents.

Even if his reasons were justified, fans hated that he tried to assassinate one of the most beloved characters in the series. After Jon’s resurrection, he hanged all the people who conspired against him, including Olly.

5Euron Greyjoy

A Weird Jack Sparrow Wannabe With No Redeeming Qualities

Euron Greyjoyis one of the most hateable characters inGame of Thrones, doing away with a lot of the mystique he had in the books while taking on a Jack Sparrow-esque attitude without any of the charisma to back it up.

The wayhe killed Rhaegalwas unsatisfactory and came out of nowhere, especially since he never earned this moment. In a series with complex characters, Euron was a one-dimensional bad guy who met his end at the hands of Jaime after a lucky moment allowed him to wash up on the same shore as his final dueling opponent.

4Petyr “Littefinger” Baelish

Betrayed Everyone Close To Him In His Quest For Power

From the very first season,Littlefinger’sconniving antics placed good people in trouble time and time again. He manipulated people to get his will and harbored an uneasy obsession over both Catelyn and Sansa Stark.

His backstabbing attitude is what led toNed’s imprisonment and subsequent death, serving as the catalyst for a war that tore apart the Seven Kingdoms. Eventually, he was outed by the Starks and executed by Arya for his devious schemes.

3Walder Frey

Betrayed The Starks And Carried Out The Infamous Red Wedding

Walder Freyis one of the most easily hated characters in the series. The horrifying way he exploited his own children is sickening enough as it is, but the man truly established himself as a heinous figure with the onset of the Red Wedding.

He wasted no time in betraying the Starks and causing their deaths after making a deal with the Lannisters. It was an inhumane massacre, which is whyfans cheered for Aryawhen she finally managed to make him pay for his betrayal.

2Joffrey Baratheon

A Character Everyone Loves To Hate For His Spoiled, Flippant Attitude

One of the most hated characters in all ofGame of Thrones, it’s a testament to Jack Gleeson’s amazing acting that he managed to make fans actively detesta spoiled royal brat who had everything handed to him on a silver platterand never understood the concept of empathy.

Joffrey’srampant cruelty is what led to some of the most shocking moments in the series, torturing women with crossbow bolts, humiliating Sansa, and spontaneously ordering the execution of Ned Stark. Watching him choke to death was satisfying, although fans felt that he deserved a more punishing death for his actions.

1Ramsay Bolton

A Heinous Bastard Who Deserved Everything He Got

To this day, there’s something aboutRamsay Boltonthat makes fans grind their teeth. This horrible, horrible man forced Sansa into a horrendous act and used his hounds to carry out inhumane hunts where real people were killed for sport.

Watching Sansa get her revenge after siccing Ramsay’s own dogs on him made for a satisfying death. His damage may take a while to be undone, but seeing the monster breathe his last was the first step for the Starks to heal and move on.
