Summary
The Finalsdeveloper, Embark Studios, has unveiled a new ‘Ultimate’ Battle Pass for the shooter’s Season 7 update. The Finals' new Battle Pass will be akin toCall of Duty’s controversial BlackCell Battle Pass, allowing players to unlock variant skin styles, earn additional Multibucks, achieve a 25% Match XP bonus, and more. However, much likeCall of Duty’s BlackCell Battle Pass, the Ultimate edition can only be purchased with real-life money.
Battle Passes have become a common feature in live-service games, with titles such asFortnite,Apex Legends,Call of Duty: Warzone,PUBG: Battlegrounds, and many more all having their own version of paid passes. While none of them offer players any competitive advantage in-game, that hasn’t stopped companies such as Activision from being heavily criticized for their monetization practices. Despite already having a paid Battle Pass, Activision took things to the next level in 2023 when it introduced thecontroversial BlackCell Battle Pass forModern Warfare 2. The Pass adds tons of extra rewards each season, but it can’t be purchased with in-game currency like its cheaper alternative.
The Finals Reveals Ultimate Battle Pass for Season 7
Despite the fact that Activision found itself in hot water with players, Embark Studios appears to be following in the studio’s footsteps, as it has now revealed an ‘Ultimate’ Battle Pass forThe FinalsSeason 7. Similar toCall of Duty’s BlackCell Battle Pass,The Finals' Ultimate Battle Pass includes 10 extra elite rewards, 1,000 Multibucks to spend instantly, a 20-level head start, and a 25% Match XP bonus. The Pass is priced at $29.99 USD and also grants players access to the Premium Battle Pass, meaning there are a total of 116 rewards and 2,575 Multibucks up for grabs.
The decision to follow inCall of Duty’s footsteps appears to have divided the community. Over on Reddit, userChooChooCherrysays the $29.99 price tag is “a bit steep,” but also notes that this is an optional addition. However, userPizza-Flashysays players shouldn’t defend the Ultimate Battle Pass as it “is a slippery slope,” andNova_Dawnspireseems to agree, stating that it “may not seem too bad for now” but that it “sets a precedent for the future.” The user goes on to explain that Embark could end up making many ofThe Finals' Battle Pass skins"generic" as a way to push players to spend $29.99 on the Ultimate edition.
According to Embark, the next majorupdate forThe Finals, which is known as Season 7: The Divide, will go live on June 12, which means there’s just one more day to go until fans can jump into a brand-new content update. Aside from the controversial new Battle Pass, Season 7 will also feature a brand-new soundtrack, new gadgets for all three classes, a stunning, fully destructible new Arena, and the return of some iconic cosmetic items from previous seasons via the new Legacy Battle Pass.
