Summary
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2felt like a miracle when it was released in 2024. Fans of the 2011 original thought they would never get a sequel until then, and thanks to the success of the second game, Saber Interactive is going to make a third one. On top of that, the first game has been gloriously remastered and droppedon Xbox Game Pass.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master Crafted Editiondoesn’t offer many new bells and whistles beyond improved visuals, but it’s good to see it appear on modern consoles again. One of the best things about the core game is the weapons, which are unlocked through the campaign, so there are no secrets to unlock. Let’s go through and see how players can wreak havoc on the Ork armies of the future by rankingthe best weapons inWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master Crafted Editionbased on their power and usefulness.
7Kraken Bolter
A One-Handed Rifle
Players will get the Bolter gun almost right away when they start the campaign, and they area Space Marine’s greatest friend. The Bolter is a decent gun, but there is an upgraded version players will find later on called theKraken Bolter, which does slightly more damage.
Overall, Bolters will mow through Orks and other enemies decently, but they won’t do much against elite enemies, making them one of the weaker but still useful guns inWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master Crafted Edition.
6Autocannon
Limited Time Destruction
There are three different types of turret guns that players can mount in the game, including the Plasma Cannon, Heavy Bolter, andAutocannon. LikemostHalogames, players can rip the turrets from their mounts and then carry them around for a limited time. Once players pass a certain threshold in the story, these weapons will be dropped, but there is no ammo depletion to worry about before that.
All three turrets are useful, and they are typically placed in areas where the game knows players are going to them. Among the three options, though, the Autocannon is a supremely powerful gun that looks and sounds monstrous, but in a good way.
5Jump Pack
Look Out Below
TheJump Packis technically more of a support piece of armor, but since it is limited like the game’s turrets and there is a badass attack associated with it, the Jump Pack will count here.Players will be able to put it on for limited times in the story, andeven though Captain Titusand his fellow Space Marines are already god-like, the Jump Pack will make Captain Titus even more indestructible.
Players will rocket into the air and then slam back down again with whatever melee weapon they are holding. No matter what weapon it is, the destruction will create a huge damage radius, but the best combo involves the Thunder Hammer, which is usually paired with the Jump Pack in the later half ofWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master CraftedEdition anyway.
4Vengeance
A Well-Timed Explosive
TheVengeancegun has no parallels in the game because it is basically a grenade launcher, but the ammo does not explode on its own.Instead, it will stick to surfaces, from walls toenemies like Orks, and then explode once detonated.
The best thing to do is set a trap for an oncoming horde and then detonate that trap when they arrive. It has a limited range, so it’s not great for some of the more elite-type enemies that like to keep their distance, like the various wizard-type enemies. Still, the Vengeance weapon rules and players are going to literally have a blast with it.
3Melta Gun
Using The Fire Force
TheMelta Gunis like a combination of a Flamethrower anda shotgun in a typical shooter. Flames will ignite and charge this gun, and when it fires, it will create a force-like wave that damages and knocks enemies back. It doesn’t have that satisfying flamethrower or shotgun sound associated with it, but the results of the Melta Gun cannot be denied.
It is best used against crowds to repel multiple enemies or in close combat against an elite foe. Like the Vengeance gun, there is nothing like the Melta Gun in the game, but the two weapons do occupy the same space in the weapon wheel, so players will have to make a choice between them.
2Lascannon
Blast Through Wizards And Orks With Ease
Everygood shooter needs a sniper rifle, and there are two types of sniper rifles available inWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master Crafted Edition. Players will get the Stalker Bolter relatively early on, which does decent damage, has a good zoom, and the ammo capacity is rock solid. TheLascannoncan be acquired much later and is more powerful, but it carries less ammo.
Even with the limited ammo capacity, players will want to keep the Lascannon in their weapon wheel because it can destroy an elite enemy in just a few hits, or even stun one to set up a melee-based kill. IfWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master Crafted Editionwere a more modern game, the animation for the Lascannon would assuredly blast a hole through an enemy for bloody and comedic effect.
1Chainsword
Rip And Tear
There are three types of melee weapons in the game, or four if we’re including the tutorial knife that is quickly ditched. Players will first find theChainsword, which is literally a chainsaw attached to a massive blade. Then they can obtain the Power Axe, followed by the aforementioned Thunder Hammer, which is normally paired with the Jump Pack. However, players can equip the Thunder Hammer at any time, unlike the Jump Pack.
All of the melee weapons are great, but the Chainsword is just too iconic to theWarhammerseries and this game in particular. Sawing through Orks or other enemies never gets old with the Chainsword, and players are going to be using it a lot to deal with crowds or to heal.
