In May 2024, Tango, Arkane Austin, and two other Bethesda-owned studios were shut down, disappointing fans and industry workers, including the original co-founder of the studio, Shinji Mikami.Tango was hoping to create a sequel toHi-Fi Rush, pitching an idea to them before Xbox executives decided to ultimately shut it down. However, there was a silver lining to this disappointment as Tango would be revived just a few months later.

In a surprising turn of events,Tango Gameworks was purchased by Kraftonalongside theHi-Fi RushIP only a few months later. After Krafton laid out plans for the studio and some time was taken to set things up, the studio hasofficially reopenedand is sporting a new look. The Tokyo-based company is utilizing a hybrid work enviornment with the in-person office now available for use by employees.

Tango Gameworks Developing an Unannounced Action Game

In addition to the studio reopening, the company also revealed its new logo and branding, to better emphasize its “creative workshop” philosophy and “hand-made feel” to the games it makes. In fact, the post also went as far as to reveal the studio is hiring for multiple positions for an unannounced action game that uses the Unreal Engine and will be aiming to launch on current gen systems. ConsideringKrafton also purchased theHi-Fi RushIP, it’s not a stretch to imagine the studio could be working on a sequel for the fan-favorite title.

On the other hand, Tango isn’t likely working on a newGhostwire: TokyoorEvil Withinas ownership of those IPs remains with Microsoft. With that said, Microsoft is holding aspecial Xbox Games Showcase on June 8, so if there is a new announcement for either IP, it could be then. For now,The Outer Worlds 2is confirmed to be a major-featured title, but fans are also expecting news surroundingGears of War Reloadedand more.
