The Xbox Games Showcase has come and gone with noStarfieldnews for players to revel in. Since the launch of the game’s first DLC,Shattered Space, last year, Bethesda’s future plans forStarfieldhave been kept in the dark. Now that there is still no news in sight, fans of Bethesda’s space adventure are left wondering if the developer will reveal anything at all.

On the bright side, another Bethesda title recently got a big update.Fallout 76’s newest update, Gone Fission, finally introduced fishing to the game. Since its launch back in 2018,Fallout 76has been able to bounce back from a rocky start and blossom into a far more engaging game, andStarfieldcould learn from the Gone Fission update.

Fallout 76’s Gone Fission Could Be the Blueprint for Starfield’s Approach to Future Content

Breathing More Life Into Starfield’s World

There are some truly strong features to be found inStarfield, like its ship customization and base building. However, when it comes to the overall world that the game is set in, there has been a lot of criticism claiming that it feels bland.Starfieldhas struggled to hit the same highs aspast Bethesda titles, but following inFallout 76’s footsteps, especially when it comes to Gone Fission, could help some of the game’s world-building woes.

Starfield’s next expansion was once rumored to be titled “Starborn,” but this has yet to be officially confirmed by Bethesda.

Starfield Has Already Introduced Game-Changing Features With Past Updates

The addition of the REV-8 seemed to be the beginning of strong post-launch updates, butStarfieldhas yet to really bring anything similarly substantial to the game ever since. The REV-8 isStarfield’s first land vehicle, and it proved to be a huge upgrade to in-game traversal. However, more immersive updates need to happen, too, and that’s where Gone Fission comes into play.

With updates like Gone Fission, cozier side activities like fishing can ultimately be an effective way to make a game’s world feel more alive. SinceStarfieldhas struggled with this, it only makes sense for Bethesda to focus its attention on bringing smaller mechanics to the game that have larger impacts on the overall world. Side activities like fishing or hunting may not be enough to fix all ofStarfield’s world, but it could at least be a strong start.

Since its release,Starfieldhas needed something that incentivizes players to stay in the game. The overall story ofStarfieldis interesting in its own right, but once the main campaign is over, a lot of players don’t return to explore the world further. Now that evenStarfield’s modding community is dwindling, it’s clear that Bethesda needs to mostly focus on making the world more detailed itself, even if that means delaying a second DLC.

Starfield’sShattered SpaceDLC introduced House Va’ruun, but the expansion has faced the same struggles as the base game.

Starfield Fans Have Been Left Waiting in Limbo

There were hopes thatStarfieldwould be present atthe Xbox Games Showcase. If there was ever a perfect time for Bethesda to announce the next DLC, it would have been this event. With the showcase now over, it’s unclear when Bethesda will make any sort of announcement about future plans, if at all. Between the expected second DLC and the rumored PS5 port,Starfieldis in need of an exciting update. A similar update to Gone Fission may be a small improvement in the grand scheme of things, but it could at least get the ball rolling, soStarfieldcan potentially make a similar comeback in the style ofFallout 76.
