Star Warsis a complex saga, a space opera in which not every character gets to live a happy ending once the twin suns set and the credits roll. As such, it’s worth paying attention to the heroes and villains of theStar Warsuniverse that simply did not deserve their fates. Whether it’s getting away with crimes, an undeserving death, or simply wanting more from the galaxy far, far away.
There are countlessStar Warscharacters that could be mentioned, from Jedi to troopers and rebels. Without further ado, it’s time to take a look at someStar Warscharacters that are most worthy of attention when it comes to a fate that they did not deserve.
8Padme Amidala
A Senator from Naboo Who Only Wanted to Love
Padme Amidala was the Queen of Naboo, who relinquished her position to be their representative as a Senator. Padme loved Naboo and its people, and loved democracy, seeking nothing but a galaxy at peace. However, Padme could not help but to indulge in the love within her heart for a Jedi, and thus her marriage to Anakin Skywalker began in utmost secrecy.
Padme had to hide her relationship with Anakin, and even had to hide the fact that she was pregnant with his children. Padme sawAnakin’s fall to the Dark Sidewith her own eyes, knowing that the man she loved murdered younglings, destroyed the Jedi Order, and helped kill democracy as Palpatine became the Emperor. Padme died of a broken heart, leaving behind her twins, her planet, democracy, and never knowing that Anakin Skywalker would be redeemed.
7Cassian Andor
The Man Who Gave Everything to the Rebel Alliance
Cassian Andor is one of the most fleshed-out Rebels and one of the most integral spies that they have, who disrupted the entire Galactic Empire through the manifestation of destiny and the destruction of the Death Star. Cassian Andor fought against the Empire his entire life, but his final mission wasperhaps the most important.
Cassian Andor gave his life to ensure that the Rebels could flee Scarif with the Death Star plans. Not only was Cassian killed by the very weapon he unwillingly and unknowingly helped build during his time in prison, but he would die never knowing that the love of his life, Bix, had his child. Cassian fought for that hope and died for it.
6Emperor Palpatine
Palpatine’s Legacy Wins in the End
Emperor Palpatine did not deserve his fate, specifically because on all technical counts, he won. Palaptine was the biggest bad of theStar Warsgalaxy, the Sith Lord who destroyed the Jedi Order and took control of the galaxy as the Emperor of the Galactic Empire. Palpatine’s rule came to an end when his apprentice, Darth Vader, killed him by throwing him into the pits of the Death Star 2.
Sadly, Palpatine’s essence survived, and he managed to enter into a clone body. Darth Vader died for nothing, and Anakin’s redemption seemed like a rug pull perpetrated by Palpatine, who managed to outlive theentire Skywalker lineage. While his granddaughter Rey claims to be a Skywalker, she still has the blood of the Sith through her veins, thus giving Palpatine the last cackling laugh, which he did not deserve.
5Leia Organa-Solo
A Princess and a General Who Lost Everything
Leia Organa’s resilience and desire to fight through all the challenges thrown her way showcase how she’s one of the greatest heroes fromStar Wars. Her planet was destroyed, her father was an evil Sith Lord, and that’s not even the worst of it all. Leia lost her son to the Dark Side, her husband was killed by that very son, and her brother, Luke, exiled himself and died for no reason.
Leia lost everything – her entire life – yet she continued to fight fora new age of rebellionwith the Resistance. Yet, it wasn’t enough, and Leia still died alone after using the Force for one final time. Leia’s death was truly sad, but unfortunately, it was in part due to the real-life tragedy of losing Carrie Fisher.
4Obi-Wan Kenobi
One of the Greatest Jedi, Forced Through Grief and Exile
Obi-Wan Kenobi was one of the best Jedi ever produced from the Jedi Order. While he still upholds the rules of the Jedi, like no attachments nor love, his teachings from his Master, Qui-Gon Jinn, made him more understanding than most, especially when it comes to Anakin Skywalker. Obi-Wan tried his best with Anakin, but sadly, Anakin needed a father, not a brother, and so Palpatine’s seductive Dark Side grasp was something Kenobi couldn’t pull Anakin back from.
Not only did Obi-Wan Kenobi lose Anakin, but he lost his home, his family, the entire Jedi Order, and everything he knew. Obi-Wan was forced into exile, a sworn protector of Anakin’s son, Luke Skywalker, on the dangerous sand planet of Tatooine. Obi-Wan watched over Luke for years until the time was right for him tostep into destiny, and Obi-Wan gladly gave his life so that Luke could one day bring balance to the Force, but it’s a shame that he had to endure so much and then die himself.
3Han Solo
A Smuggler Turned General Who Died For His Son
Han Solo started as a smuggler, and soon saw that his destiny was bigger than just smuggling spice across the Outer Rim. Han joined the Rebel Alliance and even fell in love, thus starting a life with Leia Organa. The two shared a son, but Ben’s betrayal and pull to the Dark Side saw Han jump back into smuggling routes to avoid his grief, thus abandoning the family that he deserved to raise.
Years later, Han managed to finally reunite with Leia, but it was far too brief for them to rekindle their love, and Han would never be seen again after his own son killed him to be further seduced to the Dark Side. Han died not knowing his son was redeemed, nor knowing Luke was okay, or that his love, Leia, was safe.
2Clone Troopers
Programmed and Abandoned by the Empire
The Clone Troopers have their own individual personalities, thus making each of them unique from one another. This army of brothers fought for the Galactic Republic, and fought alongside the Jedi that they saw as their friends. However, the Clone Troopers were an ultimate tool of destruction. Inhibitor chips implanted in their brains made them subservient and willing to kill the Jedi at the command of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine’s Order 66.
The Clone Troopers betrayed the Jedi, and with that, the war was on. Clone Troopers were created to fight, and with no war left, their only role was as unwilling upholders oftyranny for the Galactic Empire, until they were phased out and replaced with regular humans. The Clone Troopers fought for a galaxy that they would never be able to enjoy.
1Luke Skywalker
The Greatest Jedi Gives Everything Up to Become a Hermit
Luke Skywalker had the greatest promise for the future. The son of Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One, could carry on the legacy of the Jedi by bringing back the Jedi Order, learning from the mistakes of the old Order by teaching students that attachment and love are okay. Instead, Luke fell into the old ways of the Jedi, abandoning all rules, and even attempted to kill his nephew in a moment of weakness, despite the fact that he attempted to see the good in his own Sith Lord father, Darth Vader.
Luke’s contributions to the Jedi Order saw it burn down to the ground again, and as a result, he ridiculed himself, becoming a hermit on an isolated and hidden planet. Luke abandoned his friends, his family, and the Jedi. When Luke finally did return, it was as a Force projection to give the Resistance a distraction needed to escape, but even with Luke’s great power, projecting himself made him die. It’s a cruel and unjust fate for Luke Skywalker thatdoesn’t make a lot of sensefor his character.
