Ever since its inception back in 2004, theStar Wars Battlefrontseries has been taking players on a wild ride through the galaxy far, far away. They have gotten to experience some of the franchise’s most iconic battles, stepped into the shoes of its biggest heroes and villains, and even tried their hand at conquering the galaxy for themselves. It has been fantastic to see, with many never wanting to leave its many battlefields. However, it has been years since the last mainlineStar Wars Battlefrontlaunched, and as of now, there is seemingly nothing looming on the horizon.

Just like with the gap betweenthe originalStar Wars Battlefront 2and EA’s reboot in 2015, it currently feels like the series is on a bit of a hiatus. Outside of a re-release of the two original games, players really have had nothing else to turn to. While it does not seem like that will be changing anytime soon, it really should. TheStar Wars Battlefrontbrand has led to some fantastic FPS titles, and hopefully, it is given the chance to continue to do just that.

The Star Wars Battlefront Series Needs to Live On

Star Wars Battlefront Has Spawned Some Great FPS Titles

TheStar Wars Battlefrontseriesfirst began back in 2004, and it seemed to be a massive success right away. Players loved being plunged into the galaxy’s most iconic battlefields, with the game truly capturing thatStar Warsfeel. Because of that, Pandemic quickly got to work on the sequel, which would launch only a year later. That sequel would end up taking everything good about that first game and expanding it with so much moreStar Warsgoodness. That blend would ultimately lead to a game that is still considered by many to be one of the best that the franchise offers.

Outside some smaller-scale spin-offs, it took until 2015 for the next mainlineStar Wars Battlefrontto hit store shelves. However, unlike its predecessors, this game was locked to the original trilogy and seemed to be lacking in many areas. Luckily,2017’sStar Wars Battlefront 2would end up rectifying much of that and delivered a pretty strong FPS title. But it would end up being embroiled in much controversy over its microtransaction model, which ultimately held it back. And since its final update in 2020, EA has done nothing with the IP.

It Feels Like a Great Time for Battlefront 3

After the studio removed the microtransactions fromStar Wars Battlefront 2and released a slew of updates, it became a pretty great FPS title. Recently, there has even been a massive resurgence in players, with it actuallybreaking its Steam concurrent player record. Couple that with the popularity of the IP on a whole, and it seems only natural that aStar Wars Battlefront 3should hit store shelves at some point. However, it currently seems like there are no plans to deliver something like that.

According to aformer DICE employee, Mats Holm, fans shouldn’t expect to see aStar Wars Battlefront 3any time soon, with most of the originalBattlefront 2team no longer with the developer.

AStar Wars Battlefront 3could be a massively successful title if it is able to hit all the right notes. It needs to adapt the three trilogies, give players substantial amounts of content to fight through, and be free from any sort of microtransaction controversy. If the studio can do all that and deliver an immersive experience, then players would likely flock to it. And as the release date for the nextStar Warsfilm looms, it feels like the perfect time to do just that.

It remains to be seen if EA has any plans for theStar Wars Battlefrontbrand going forward. If it does not, then hopefully another studio will be able to take it for a spin. The concept is just too good to be left gathering dust, and with the right team, it could lead to something truly special for fans of the galaxy far, far away.
