Summary
A petition asking EA and Disney to makeStar Wars Battlefront 3is nearing 2,000 signatures. There have been two separate attempts at theStar Wars Battlefrontseries. The first crack at it came in the mid-2000s with the originalStar Wars Battlefrontand its sequel, 2005’sStar Wars Battlefront 2. A third game in the series entered development but was ultimately canceled, leading toBattlefrontbeing dormant for a full decade.
Then, in 2015, EA and DICE kicked off the second attempt at theStar Wars Battlefrontseries. 2015’sStar Wars Battlefrontreceived a somewhat mixed reaction, as while there was a great deal of praise for the visuals and core gameplay, many were disappointed with the game’s monetization and lack of content. Two years later, EA and DICE released the highly contentiousStar Wars Battlefront 2, which was criticized for its loot boxes and microtransactions. The backlash toStar Wars Battlefront 2’s loot boxes was severe enoughthat it caught the attention of politicians and greatly contributed to loot box laws in various countries around the world.
DespiteStar Wars Battlefront 2’s rocky start, the game eventually turned things around, to the point where players started a petition trying to keep the game alive in the face of EA and DICE ceasing new content updates. NowStar Warsfans have started yet another petition, but this one is not to revitalizeBattlefront 2, but to convince EA and Disney to move forward withStar Wars Battlefront 3. TheChange.org petitionwas started by user Dan Merc and is gaining new signatures with every refresh of the page. At the time of this writing, theStar Wars Battlefront 3petition has 1,825 signatures, but that number will likely be higher by the time this article is published.
Star Wars Battlefront 3 Petition
The petition claims that there is “sky-high” demand forStar Wars Battlefront 3, and that such a game would have “limitless” potential." The petition also pointed out how muchStar Warscontributed to EA’s revenue this past decade. There once was a time when EA had exclusive access to theStar Warslicense in the gaming space, but Disney has started to branch out since then, allowing other developers to make their ownStar Warsgames. Even so, EA is still working onStar Warsprojects, like thethirdJedigameand theStar Wars: Zero Companystrategy game, and so it’s not like aStar Wars Battlefront 3is impossible at this point.
Ultimately,Star Wars Battlefront 2did not meet EA’s sales expectations, and so that could work against a third game materializing. It’s also worth pointing out thatStar Wars Battlefront 2developer DICE is currently busy with the nextBattlefieldgame. If aBattlefront 3ever happens, it will likely be well after DICE is done working on the newBattlefield- a game that is currently without a release date.
