Summary
Spider-Man: Brand New Daywill likely feature numerous villains, just likeNo Way Home. One of the attendees shared some details from Disney’s recent PR event.
Disneyrecently hosted its Blockbuster Consumer Products Presentation, where attendees were treated to new product reveals like toys, apparel, books, and collectibles. At the event, usually attended by retail buyers, manufacturing partners, its internal teams, media and industry analysts, and some celebrities from its franchises, brand executives will give presentations and show exclusive footage, trailers or concept art for their upcoming major titles. One of the highlights was Tom Holland’sSpider-Man: Brand New Day, and one of the attendees shared major details fans will surely love to hear.
Chris Higashi, who was among those who got an invite to the event, shared some snaps from the event on Instagram. According to him, their mobile phones were surrendered, so he didn’t have a lot of photos from the event. However, he shared some highlights from the event. It reportedly opened with a live PolynesianMoanaperformance with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson introducing them to the show. There were also updates aboutMandalorian and Grogu, Snow Troopers, At-At,andJabba and Zeb. He saidToy Story 5was promising because it “looks fun” andAvengers: Doomsdaywas “so good.” Most importantly, he mentioned Scorpion, Boomerang, Tombstone forSpider-Man: Brand New Day. He need not say more for fans to understand that the trio could be the villains inSpider-Man 4and that alone is enough to stir excitement that many immediately talked about it onReddit.
Entertainment insider Jeff Sneider said in one episode ofThe Hot Micthat Holland’sSpider-Manwill face at least two villains in his fourth return. Sneider added that the movie’sprimary villain will be maleand the rumored female antagonist will be the secondary villain. But the big bad that Sneider mentioned was not one of the trio from the Disney event. According to the rumors he heard,Mr. Negativewill be the primary villain. Additionally, there were reportedly talks about Steven Yeun possibly playing Mr. Negative on the big screen. Sneider said it made sense because theBeefstar nearly joined the MCU inThunderbolts*but had to leave the project due to a conflict of schedule. Host John Rocha agreed, adding that Yeun reportedly said he had another Marvel project in the pipeline and it could beSpider-Man 4.
Given the recent news aboutSpider-Man: Brand New Day, it’s highly likely that the webslinger will be facing multiple villains. The addition of Scorpion, Boomerang, and Tombstone is excellent because they offer a fresh, grounded, and personal threat to Peter, building out the street-level side of theMCUthat many missed. Several wanted the franchise to return to this type of story because they already had enough of the multiverse. Brutal and relentless Scorpion reflects Peter’s struggles with vengeance and identity, while Boomerang can bring comic relief and potentially turn into Spidey’s ally. His story could present second chances and unexpected friendships. Tombstone, a street-level crime boss, is perfect to expand the criminal underworld plot in the story. Overall, the trio can push Peter into a more mature and independent hero, perfect for Holland’s character arc. It’s time for him to mature because it has been nearly 10 years since his MCU debut. Holland was introduced as the new Spider-Man inCaptain America: Civil Warin 2016 and he was a funny but charming high school student then fanboying onRobert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, aka Iron Man.
Scorpion, Boomerang, and Tombstone’s presence at the Disney event could mean one thing – they will likely appear inSpider-Man 4.However, Mr. Negative’s absence doesn’t mean he was out, Disney and MCU were probably keeping him a secret to be the movie’s big surprise. The rumored female villain could be another addition to the film for gender diversity. The latest updates aboutSpider-Manvillains make the film even more exciting and definitely among the MCU projects many will be looking forward to watching in theaters.
