Summary
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Master Crafted Editionseemingly won’t be coming to the PlayStation 5, at least not initially. The exact circumstances that led to theSpace Marineremaster skipping the PS5 are still unclear, but it’s possible that the game is still planned to reach Sony’s latest console.
Themassive success ofWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2—which had sold over 4.5 million copies as of early 2025—reignited fan interest in revisiting its 2011 predecessor. Sega, which has owned the rights to the original title since acquiring developer Relic Entertainment in 2013, has moved to capitalize on this momentum by announcing its remasteredMaster Crafted Editionon May 22.
However, it would appear that the remaster won’t be coming to the PS5, whose logo was missing from its reveal trailer, which premieredduring Warhammer Skulls 2025. The 82-second video only ends with the promise ofSpace Marine Master Crafted Editionlaunching on the Xbox Series X/S and PC, via both Steam and the Epic Games Store, on June 10.
Space Marine Remaster Could Still Be Coming to PlayStation 5
The trailer also confirmed that theWarhammer 40,000: Space Marineremaster would be a day-one Xbox Game Pass release. While Sega and Microsoft’s relationship has been growing stronger in recent years, particularly with regard to the Japanese gaming giant’s Xbox Game Pass support, the likelihood of this particular title being some sort of platform exclusive appears slim. After all, Xbox hasn’t been pursuing permanent platform exclusives since 2024, so if even its own first-party games are now coming to PlayStation, there’s seemingly no reason for it to pay for third-party exclusivity—timed or otherwise.
As for what could be the reason behind theSpace Marineremaster seemingly skipping PlayStation at launch, two possibilities seem plausible. One is that the PlayStation port may require additional development time for unspecified reasons. Alternatively, the PS5 version might still be planned to debut alongside its PC and Xbox counterparts, and it’s only its official announcement that’s being held back for some reason. Prominent industry insider Jeff Grubb reported that aPlayStation State of Play is currently on the agenda for June 2025, which could explain the delay, as Sony may have asked Sega to withhold the PS5 announcement to help bolster the upcoming event’s lineup. This scenario would still leave open the possibility of theMaster Crafted Editionlaunching on the PS5 simultaneously with the Xbox Series X/S and PC versions.
In terms of novelties, the upcoming remaster is billed as the ultimate edition ofWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine, offering 4K resolution support, improved character models, user interface tweaks, and a modernized control scheme, among other changes. TheMaster Crafted Editionwill come with all the downloadable content thatSpace Marinereceived post-release, including Chaos Unleashed and The Dreadnought add-ons.
