In an interview with IGN, Saber’s Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, has confirmed thatSpace Marine 2will retain its maximum player limit of three. While expanding the limit hasn’t been on the official roadmap at any point, fans had hoped that thenew horde-style Siege mode inSpace Marine 2might expand that number. However, Willits stated that scaling enemy difficulty for four players was too hard to implement.

Saber Keeps Space Marine 2’s Player Limit

No technical limitations were mentioned, as has seemingly been proven by modders, who’ve managed to come up with a workaround, thanks toSpace Marine 2’s modding tools. The sole reason for sticking with three players is managing the level of difficulty in the game. Willits mentioned that the challenges would simply be too easy with four members tackling the same enemies.

Official support for four or more players was shut down for the foreseeable future by Willits as he stated that there are no plans for the player cap extension. However, the modding community has been hard at work at adjusting the game’s core structure. A group of modders has already released a12-player co-op mod forSpace Marine 2, breaking the game’s three-player cap by a hefty margin.

Other mods have also come in to add to the experience, introducing everything from the Power Axe toThomas the Tank Engine toSpace Marine 2. With massive potential inWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2for larger-scale war, among other extra features, perhaps the modding community can persuade Saber to reconsider the opportunity.
