Sega recently shared some details about pre-race character interactions inSonic Racing: CrossWorlds, including those between characters that have rarely met in previous games. A newSonickart racer is zooming onto all major platforms on September 25, this time featuring Sonic and his many different friends and enemies warping between dimensions using ring-like portals during races. Fans have been getting to see more ofSonic Racing: CrossWorldsin action, including looks at the many different characters that will be available at launch.
TheSonic the Hedgehogfranchise has no shortage of iconic characters, andSonic Racing: CrossWorldspromises to have a massive roster to accommodate them. As one would expect from a series that has lasted as long asSonichas, many of these characters have a personal history with each other, with Sonic himself maintainingrivalries with the likes of Dr. Eggman, Shadow the Hedgehog, and various other villains and anti-heroes. Other characters haven’t interacted much at all, andSonic Racing: CrossWorldswill reflect this in its pre-race dialogue.
In a recent post on the officialSonic Racing: CrossWorldsTwitter account, Sega revealed that there are over 500 types of character exchanges in the game and over 1,000 voice lines. This means that there will be a variety of pre-race conversations, including between characters who have never interacted before in the history of theSonicseries. An example of this is shown betweenZazz of the Deadly Sixand Jet the Hawk, which sees the former underestimate the latter ahead of their showdown on the racetrack.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Will Have Some Characters Interact for the First Time
Additionally,Sonic Racing: CrossWorldswill have guest charactersoutside of theSonicseries as DLC, with the first round being confirmed at Summer Game Fest 2025 earlier this month. Sonic and company will get to tear through tracks alongside Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga from theYakuzafranchise, and Joker ofPersona 5fame. A later update will bring Steve, Alex, and the Creeper fromMinecraftinto the fray.
This makes the pre-race dialogue inSonic Racing: CrossWorldall the more interesting, as it might have these guests interact with the main cast on a level that few games often bother with. Even with justthe primarySoniccast, there are plenty of characters who haven’t officially shared the screen in past games, so hardcore fans will have extra incentive to pair off everyone and see how their dialogues play out inSonic Racing: CrossWorldswhen it finally launches in September.
