2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for racing fans.Mario Kart Worldwas released on June 5 as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. However, Sega is looking to get in on the action withSonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the next installment in theSonic Racingseries. In addition to new features like the CrossWorlds mechanic that changes the course after the first lap, the developer has revealed that a huge lineup ofcharacters will be available forSonic Racing: CrossWorlds. While many of these racers come from theSonic the Hedgehogfranchise, some more unexpected names will make an appearance.
During the Summer Game Fest 2025 presentation, Sega unveiled a new look atSonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The trailer revealed new characters coming to the game from different IPs. Specifically, the game will include Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga, and Joker as free post-launch content. This means everyone will get to experience these well-known characters in the future. In addition, Sega announced that Steve, Alex, and Creeper are coming to the game as part of a collaboration withMinecraft. As seen in the video, this collaboration, which will be paid content, appears to include a track themed aroundMinecraft’s massive worldas well. In particular, the Overworld and Nether were shown off, along with minecarts as available vehicles.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Guest Characters Revealed
Besides unveiling guest characters, Sega revealed a September 25 release date forSonic Racing: CrossWorlds, meaning fans only have to wait a few more months. In addition, pre-orders for the game are available now, with those who do so gaining three days of early access. The end of the trailer also revealed a Werehog Pack inspired by2008’sSonic Unleashedfor pre-ordering, along with aSonic Primecharacter Pack for ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition.
It is also worth pointing out that other characters for the game have yet to be revealed. BesidesMinecraft, five mystery character slots were shown at the end of the trailer for the Season Pass. It will be interesting to see what else thedeveloper has in store forSonic Racing: CrossWorldsas it nears release later this summer. Time will tell how it will be able to compete against other competitors, such asMario Kart Worldon the Switch 2.
