That said, its popularity was consistently growing ever since the first season aired. After the epic conclusion ofSolo LevelingSeason 2, the series is more popular than ever before.Solo Levelinghas quickly become one of the biggest anime series, and that was achieved with just 25 episodes in total, across both seasons. It’s not every day that fans see an anime get so popular so quickly.
Its popularity was even more apparent this year during the Crunchyroll Awards. The Crunchyroll awards nominate anime for a multitude of categories and have a mix of judges and fan votes determine the results.
Not only didSolo Levelingget nominated for many awards, it also won a lot of them, the most by far of any other anime this year.Solo Levelingwon the most prestigious award, the Anime of the Year, but that’s not all. It also won Best New Series, Best Action, Best Score, Best Ending Sequence, Best Voice Artist Performance (Brazilian Portuguese), Best Voice Artist Performance (Castilian Spanish), and Best Voice Artist Performance (English).
Another awardSolo Leveling won was actually that of Best Main Character, which was specifically awarded to Sung Jinwoo. This one was definitely one of the most controversial choices, as many fans believed this was very undeserved. That is especially because of how good the other nominees were this year.
Aside from Jinwoo, the following characters were nominated: Frieren from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Maomao from the Apothecary Diaries, Kafka Hibino from Kaiju No.8, Okarun from Dandadan, and Momo from Dandadan. If anything, many fans believe Jinwoo to be the least deserving of the win out of these.

Many fans believe Jinwoo to be the most bland character nominated, and according to fan opinion, if anyone should have won, it should have beenMaomao, the main character of the new hit series The Apothecary Diaries.
Maomao is definitely one of the most interesting characters. After being kidnapped and forced to work in the imperial palace, she quickly stands out from the rest with her incredible skills as an Apothecary. She is cunning and will solve any mystery that comes her way. Even when looking at her character throughout the first season of the series, she has had incredible moments, especially in the second half.
Overall, however, people upset about the result should remember that the winner is never objective, but based on the votes of fans, who oftentimes don’t even know all the nominated characters or series.The Crunchyroll Awards are more of a popularity poll, and while Jinwoo was deserving in the eyes of some, others considered it an unworthy win.
