Summary
Solo Levelingfeatures characters from diverse backgroundswho wish to survive in a world riddled with conflict. While the series' focus is on the protagonist for most of the first half, things get exciting in the later arcs with the emergence of an ancient race of monsters who have been waiting for the right time to put their sinister schemes into motion.
So far, only three Monarchs have made their debuts. But sinceSolo Levelingseason 3 is expected to cover the story up to the International Conference arc, a few more of these ancient monsters might finally make their first appearance. Their dramatic debuts will leave a lasting impression on viewers and create the perfect buildup for an exciting showdown.
5Yogumunt
Monarch of Transfiguration
Yogumunt, the King of Demonic Specters, might look like an old man, but he is an unpredictable and cunning adversary. He understands his weaknesses and strengths extremely well, ensuring that he never makes any ego-driven decisions. Yogumunt’s ability to access situations with reason alone makes him a frightening force. But what makes him truly terrifying is his disdain for humans, since he feels that they are an inferior species that deserves to be wiped out.
Yogumunt has quite a few powers, but his specialty is creating gates that can be used to transport an entire army from one world to another. While the Monarch is expected to make his debutas early as the Ahjin Guild arc, he might barely get any screen time for now. However, his early appearances will set the stage for his eventual involvement in the final arcs of the series.
4Tarnak
Monarch of Iron Body
While quite a few Monarchswill make a debut in Solo Leveling’s third season,Tarnakis expected to have the smallest impact. Unlike some of his peers, he is far-sighted and shrewd. This is his biggest strength, as it leads him to prioritize self-preservation over reckless battles.
Tarnak might not have a huge impact on the upcoming arcs, but his debut will surely make fans curious about his intentions and long-term role. His arrogance and overconfidence make him seem invincible, which will surely make the fans intrigued. His brief appearances in the upcoming installment will also serve as subtle foreshadowing, creating anticipation for the role he is set to play in the final arcs of the show.
3Querehsha
Monarch of Plagues
Querehsha, also known as the Queen of Insects, is a malevolent and ruthless ancient monster who is expected to make her debutin the International Guild Conference arc. While most Monarchs are sadistic, Querehsha’s cruel instincts are far more primal and unsettling. She derives satisfaction from putting her enemies through the worst possible pain imaginable, savoring every moment of the cruel torment she inflicts on others.
When it comes to human beings, Querehsha has an insatiable bloodlust for destruction and decay. She is willing to kill as many people as she can slaughter, not for some agenda, but for the pure joy of murder and corruption. While she might sound like someone with no heart, Querehsha has bizarre motherly instincts when it comes to insects and is quite protective of them.
Querehsha’s powers are quite unique. She can use parasites to control the dead and unleash them upon her rivals. Querehsha secretes deadly toxins from her body that can easily kill even some top hunters. She might not seem strong physically, but she can generate enough power tosurprise someone of Jinwoo’s caliber.
2Legia
Monarch of the Beginning
Legiapossesses frightening powers like the rest of the nine Monarchs. He can create gates and manifest his true spiritual form whenever he desires. Furthermore, he can establish honest conversations between himself and other individuals by using the Pledge of Trust, which forces both parties to speak the truth. As an extremely shrewd and dishonest monster, he uses these powers to his advantage and understands how to manipulate situations in his favor.
Set to make hisdebut in the Japan Crisis arc, Legia might not play that big of a role in this season of the anime, despite being one of the Monarchs. But his confrontation with Jinwoo will be pivotal, as it will put events into motion that will have far-reaching consequences.
1Ashborn
The Monarch of Shadows
One of the most powerful charactersin the series,Ashbornis perhaps the only benevolent Monarch who wants to ensure a lasting peace by putting an end to the bloodshed that has continued for eons. He also appears to be compassionate and reflective, thinking beyond his natural instincts and prioritizing the greater good above all else.
I am the record of your bitter struggle. I am the evidence of your resistance. I am the reward of your pain. I am death, I am eternal rest, and I am also terror. I am you.
While the manhwa introduces quite a few Monarchs with intimidating powers,Ashborn is in a different league altogether. His incredible strength could overpower an entire army. As the Monarch of Shadows, he also possesses the ability to turn corpses into his loyal servants. While Ashborn’s powers are too many to mention, it’s safe to say that he knows how to impose his will on his rivals and bring them down. He is all set to make his debut in the Double Dungeon arc.
