Spiritual Body Manifestation is one of the most interesting abilities in the series. However, it is yet to be explored inthe anime as of now with Season 2.
For fans who don’t know, Spiritual Body Manifestation is an ability that’s almost like a transformation. It allows the user to gain a spiritual body and offers increased strength and defense by using the power of a higher being.
While what the ability does is quite straightforward, it has always been confusing as to who can and can’t use this power in the story. And most importantly, can a human use this ability or not? This was especially confusingwhen in the Manhwa, Thomas Andre, a vessel, used what looked like a spiritual body manifestation when fans believed this shouldn’t be possible.
However, Chugong, the creator of the series, finally sheds light on this issue in a Korean forum known as dcinside. In a statement he made, he confirms that what Thomas used was not Spiritual Body Manifestation. Instead, it was just one of his abilities. Chugong also confirms that the body of a vessel can’t tolerate Spiritual Body Manifestation. They will definitely die if this is attempted.
Chugong also goes on to elaborate more about the lore of theSolo Levelingworld, explaining how the bodies and souls of higher beings are different from humans. For these higher beings, their souls and bodies are like one, so they are not physical beings, as opposed to humans. Here’s Chugong’s exact statement about the matter.
“According to Solo Leveling’s setting, a person is a soul + body, but higher beings are soul=body. So their bodies are said to be spiritual, not physical. Of course, if you destroy the spirit body, the soul will also be destroyed. That’s why higher beings cannot be made into shadows.
That is, Spiritual Body Manifestation is a process in which a person with a physical body temporarily changes his or her body into a spiritual one to maximally use the power of higher beings. It is a power that cannot be handled by the body of the vessel at the moment. If a human casts it, they will die 100% of the time. The bottom line is that Thomas’s reinforcement is a skill, not Spiritual Body Manifestation.”
