Konami made waves this week, as it was announced that the firstSilent Hillgame would be getting a remake. After developer Bloober Team’s success with theSilent Hill 2remake last year, givingSilent Hilla fresh coat of paint next only makes sense. The firstSilent Hillwas incredibly influential in the psychological horror genre, and getting to see it in a brand-new light in the future is an exciting development.

WithBloober Team set to return for the nextSilent Hillremake, it makes the announcement that much more intriguing. Leading up to the release ofSilent Hill 2’s remake, there was a lot of skepticism about whether the developers could nail the game’s specific eerie tone or not. Thankfully, Bloober Team proved that it has what it takes to bring the franchise into a modern setting. As exciting as this upcoming remake is, though, it does leave the series in a strange position, as the first game’s remake is bound to look better than its sequel. This could mean that theSilent Hillseries sharesThe Last of Us Part 1andPart 2’s graphical differences.

The Last of Us Part 1 One-Upped its Successor

Withthe original version ofThe Last of Ushitting the scene back in 2013, it only made sense for Naughty Dog to remake it, especially afterPart 2impressed with its incredible graphics. Rebranded asThe Last of Us Part 1, the remake had the benefit of years of development evolution behind it. On top of that,TLOUPart 1is exclusive to the PS5, so while the differences between it andTLOUPart 2aren’t as stark as the original version,TLOUPart 1still looks better overall.

It’s strange for a first chapter to look better than its sequel, andSilent Hillis bound to have a similar improvement.Silent Hill 2already looks great, but as Bloober Team works on theSilent Hillremake with more practice and resources under its belt, it might look considerably better.Bloober Team’s next game,Cronos: The New Dawn, is already showing visual improvements compared toSilent Hill 2, so there’s no telling what the firstSilent Hillmight look like when it launches.

SinceSilent Hill 2is such a beloved entry in the series, it’s understandable as to why Konami chose to remake that chapter first. However, releasing the games out of order can also be a bit jarring. On the other hand, though, there is still an interesting benefit to this out-of-order approach.

As of now, neither Konami nor Bloober Team have revealed a release target for theSilent Hillremake.

If Silent Hill 3 Gets Remade, it Can Feel More Connected to Silent Hill 1

Silent Hill 3is a direct sequel to the firstSilent Hill, so if the former is on Konami’s list to get remade next, it would make releasing the games out of order make a lot more sense. Of course, Konami hasn’t revealed any plans toremakeSilent Hill 3, but at this rate, it may not be too presumptuous to expect a modern version.

Now that aSilent Hillremake has been confirmed, it will be fascinating to see just how Bloober Team approaches reshaping the game for a new audience. The developer was able to keepthe essence ofSilent Hill 2intact while still making it feel fresh, and the same can hopefully be achieved withSilent Hill.
