Dead as Dreams is a side quest inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon,in which players are tasked by the Horns of the South quartermaster, Fearghas, to investigate the reports of undead creatures in the nearby Forgotten Cemetery.

Upon exploring this location, players will eventually encounter the mastermind, Yorath, who has been raising the dead in order to learn about the relationship between life and death. There are multiple ways to resolve this quest, as Yorath is open to listening to a second opinion and revising his ways. Should Yorath be killed, spared, or convinced to give up his pursuits? The methods and rewards for each possible option are detailed below.

Should You Kill Yorath or Let Him Go in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

There are three possible ways to resolve the Dead as Dreams quest and the fate of Yorath. They are:

Option #1: Attack and kill Yorath

If you choose to kill Yorath as soon as you meet him, you’ll receive the following loot from his body.

After killing Yorath, talk to Huardoc, and he will give you an additional reward:

Huardoc will also ask you to place Yorath’s remains in the Inner Crypt, initiating the quest Non Omnis Moriar, and giving you theInner Crypt Key. Go to Yorath’s dead body and gather Yorath’s remembrance. Take it to the Inner Crypt, turn right, and you’ll see a room with an empty stele and a bowl to place ashes. Place Yorath’s ashes inside and choose an inscription.

In the Inner Crypt, you will find another copy ofAbhartach’s Calling,The Waning Ward (Shield), and another recipe book.

When you return to Huardoc, you’ll find that he is dead.

The book next to Huardoc is a recipe book on how to craft the Knight armor set.

Option #2: Convince Yorath to Turn into an Undead

Talk to Yorath and choose the non-hostile dialogue option. After exhausting his dialogue, you’ll be presented with two stat-locked options:

Succeeding the dialogue check in either option will convince Yorath that he needs the advice of Huardoc, the only talkative undead in the area. Talk to Huardoc, then return to Yorath. Select the normal dialogue options, and he will turn into an undead. Return to Huardoc, and he will gift you theAbhartach’s Callingspell and agree to take care of Yorath in his current state.

After Yorath turns into an undead, you can directly kill him to obtain all of the loot on his body, which is the same as Option #1, but with the addition of Monster Blood and Spoiled Meat.

In this option, Huardoc will not give you the Key to the Inner Crypt, as he doesn’t need to bury Yorath’s remains. The only way to obtain the Inner Crypt Key with this method is to kill Huardoc and loot his body.

Option #3: Convince Yorath to give up Necromancy

to convince Yorath to voluntarily give up his pursuits, repeat the steps from Option #2 and convince Yorath that he needs to listen to Huardoc first. Then, when you return to Yorath after speaking to Huardoc, you’ll need to succeed in the following dialogue option:

After Yorath is convinced to leave Necromancy behind and start a new chapter in his life, he will immediately leave the Cemetery, leaving you with the following rewards:

Talk to Huardoc, and he will be pleasantly surprised to find Yorath gone, and will reward you with theInner Crypt Key. You can freely loot everything inside, detailed under Option #1.

You can also get the Hexbounce Wand from the Blood Cave during the quest,Blood Stains the Circle.

What Should You Do With Yorath in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

Killing Yorath directly yields the best rewards, and you do not need any specific stats to achieve this. The only reason not to choose this option would be to get the ‘good’ ending, which is when you convince Yorath that his quest is bound to fail. However, this option requires the player to have invested in eitherSpirituality and Perception, orPracticality and Perception, otherwise, the dialogue options are bound to fail.

However, considering how importantstarting stats are inTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, and how early players get this quest, this might be unfeasible. Convincing Yorath to become an undead is essentially the same as the first option, but instead of getting the Key to the Inner Crypt for free, you’ll need to kill Huardoc to get it.
