Summary

Despite somewhat diminishing returns, Marvel Studios continues plowing forward with original Disney+ shows set in theMCU. One of the biggest series coming down the pike is theWandaVisionspinoff, currently shooting under the working titleVision Quest, and it just cast a beloved sitcom star.

2021’sWandaVisionwas the first original seriesMarvel Studiosever produced for Disney+, and it was a runaway success. Many fans believe it is stillthe best television show the MCU has released(with all due respect toLokiandYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, of course). As such, it already has one nearly-as-beloved spinoff in 2024’sAgatha All Alongand a second one,Vision Quest, on the way as well. Created by Terry Matalas, a man best known for his work on beloved sci-fi series such as12 MonkeysandStar Trek: Picard,Vision Questwill follow Paul Bettany’s titular Avenger after the events ofWandaVision. Now, aSchitt’s Creekstar is joining the MCU for some superheroic shenanigans.

Deadlineis reporting that Emily Hampshire ofSchitt’s Creekfame is set to joinVision Questas E.D.I.T.H., the augmented reality tactical defense AI system created by Tony Stark in the event of his death. E.D.I.T.H. was last seen as a major player in 2019’sSpider-Man: Far From Homewhen gifted to Peter Parkerand was voiced by Dawn Michelle King. Given what is known aboutVision Quest, it comes as no great shock that E.D.I.T.H. would be involved in the show somehow. However, Hampshire’s casting suggests a more important role for the character going forward.

The last time Marvel fans saw Vision,it was at the end ofWandaVision, where the resurrected, all-white version of Paul Bettany’s character flew into the sky after all the crazy events involving Wanda Maximoff in Westview, New Jersey. Even the most casual of Marvel fans will remember Vision being murdered by Thanos at the end ofAvengers: Infinity Warfor the Mind Stone in his forehead. S.W.O.R.D. reassembled his body and used some of Wanda’s Chaos Magic to bring him back to life, albeit with no memories of his past life. After battling the Vision that Wanda created in Westview with Chaos Magic, the resurrected Vision’s memories were restored, and off he flew.

Details regarding the overall plot ofVision Questare scant, but Marvel Studios began shooting the series back in March, and someexciting particulars have come out about the show. For example, we have two returning villains to look forward to: James Spader’s Ultron fromAvengers: Age of Ultronand Faran Tahir’s Raza fromIron Man. Additionally, T’Nia Miller ofFoundationandThe Haunting of Bly Manorfame is joining the cast as Jocasta, a complicated AI originally created by Ultron in Marvel Comics back in the late 1970s. Jocasta has worked both with and against the Avengers over the years and has a lengthy, on-and-off relationship with the Machine Man.

Things are shaping up quickly forVision Quest. With a main cast that includes Bettany, Spader, Miller, Hampshire, Tahir, and beloved character actor Todd Stashwick,MCUfans have a lot to look forward to.
