Summary
Disney may be partnering withXboxonce more to make a newStar Warsgame, according to a new rumor. This wouldn’t be the first timeXboxand Disney have partnered up, as they recently came together to createIndiana Jones and the Great Circledeveloped by Bethesda’sWolfensteinstudio, MachineGames. The game was released back in December to massive critical acclaim and became one of the first major Xbox first-party titles to jump over to PlayStation 5 this past April. That’s not all, however, as another Bethesda team, Arkane Lyon, still has itsMarvel’s Bladegame in development.
Ever since EA’sStar Warsexclusivity ended two years ago, there has been a new wave of exciting new titles based on the iconic sci-fi franchise. Perhaps the biggest of them all is Ubisoft’s 2024 entry,Star Wars Outlaws, hailed as the first ever open-worldStar Warsgame. There have also been a number of lower-profile remasters of classicStar Warsgames, like Nightdive Studios’Star Wars: Dark Forces Remasterand Aspyr’sStar Wars: Bounty HunterandStar Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles. There are even more games currently in the works, too, such as EA’s thirdStar Wars Jedientry, Quantic Dream’s mysteriousStar Wars Eclipse, Aspyr’sStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republicremake, and themost recently announcedStar Wars Zero Company, anXCOM-like tactics game from Bit Reactor.
Now, a new rumor suggests that another newStar Warsgame could be in the works, this time under the Xbox banner. According to Xbox influencer Riskit4TB onTwitter, Disney is reportedly interested in working with Xbox once more after the critical and commercialsuccess ofIndiana Jones and the Great Circle. Riskit goes on to mention that his contact believes it’s a newStar Warsgame that Disney is apparently interested in making with Xbox.
Disney Might Be Working on New Star Wars Game with Xbox
This new rumor poses the interesting question of which studio under the Xbox umbrella would be in the best position to make aStar Warsgame. AfterIndiana Jones and the Great Circle, MachineGames is expected by many to return to itsWolfensteinseries for a third mainline installment, as it’s now been eight years since 2017’sWolfenstein 2. There have been short-lived rumors of a CoalitionMandaloriangame in the past, though withGears of War: E-Daynext up for the studio, this no longer seems likely. Ninja Theory, id Software, Zenimax Online and the freshly created Elsewhere Entertainment have yet to announce their next big games, making them prime suspects for aStar Warsproduction.
Although the Xbox Games Showcase is set to go live this Sunday, June 8, fans shouldn’t expect any Disney orStar Warsnews to come of it, as if this rumor is true, the game is potentially several years away. Though that’s not to rule out anew look atMarvel’s Blade, as Sunday seems like a prime opportunity for Arkane Lyon to take a piece of the Xbox spotlight.
