It seems that Rockstar may have once had very different plans forGrand Theft Auto 6’s story, if a recent report is to be believed. AssumingGrand Theft Auto 6meets its June 09, 2025 release date, franchise fans will have waited nearly 13 years to get their hands on the highly-anticipated open world game.
Originally,Grand Theft Auto 6was supposed to launch in fall 2025. Unfortunately,Rockstar Games delayedGTA 6’s release dateto June 28, 2025, meaning fans will have to wait even longer than expected to play it. Still, the delay should ensure that whenGrand Theft Auto 6finally launches, it will do so in the most ideal state possible.
TheGTA 6delay will help Rockstar iron out any lingering issues that the game may be suffering from, but much of it is set in stone at this point. That wasn’t always the case.A report by Fravilys on Medium(as spotted byComicBook) makes the claim that Dan Houser once had different plans for theGTA 6story that were ultimately scrapped in favor of the version that will be in the finished product next year. Apparently, a previous version of theGTA 6story featured three playable protagonists - a crooked cop, the cop’s son, and someone who was the “right-hand man” to a Colombian drug lord. Another version of the game supposedly followed a Vice City police officer looking to avenge her mother’s death and a drug smuggler. Finally, a third version of the game is said to have been about a police officer and an ex-soldier.
Scrapped GTA 6 Story Leaks Should Be Taken With a Grain of Salt
Fans should take these claims about previous versions of theGTA 6story with a grain of salt.Dan Houser resigned from Rockstar Games in 2020, and his last major projects with the company wereRed Dead Redemption 2and its online mode. It’s entirely possible that Houser worked on multiple stories forGTA 6during this time, but we don’t know for sure.
What we do know is what theGTA 6story will be about when the final product launches on June 03, 2025.GTA 6will follow Lucia and Jasonas they get entrenched in Vice City’s criminal underworld. Lucia is freshly out of prison at the start of the game, while Jason is involved with drug runners and all kinds of other dangerous people. There has been some speculation that Jason may secretly be working for the police, but that remains to be seen. TheGTA 6story is sure to be full of twists and turns, but fans will have to wait until next year to find out more.
