Rematchdrew over 92,000 concurrent players on its first day, despite some stiff competition from larger studios. Sloclap’s first foray into sports generated a good deal of hype leading up to its release, thanks to a strong reputation for games likeSifuand a successful beta. That excitement seems to have carried over into its full release, withRematchsurpassing its biggest competitor in the soccer game space by a wide margin.

Despite the largely positive press aroundRematchleading up to its debut, not everything has been rosy for the game. Thelack of day-one cross-play support inRematchstirred some controversy, leading Sloclap to issue an apology to fans on launch day. Still, that doesn’t seem to have affected it too much, as plenty of fans still poured into the game’s servers on June 19.

According toRematch’s SteamDB charts, the game drew a peak of 92,841 simultaneous players during its first day. At the time of this writing, it also sits at the top of Steam’s Top Sellers list with a “Mostly Positive” review score. Those numbers would be impressive in any context, but they’re all the more so in light ofRematch’s competition from big names likeEA Sports FC 25, which saw 60,328 concurrent players on June 19 despite coming from a much larger company and being part of a more established franchise. This isn’t even the most traction the indie soccer sim has gotten so far, astheRematchbeta drew over 159,000 playersat once.

Rematch Sees Over 92,000 Concurrent Players on Day One

Rematchstill hasn’t passed its biggest competition’s all-time numbers since coming out of beta, but it’s off to a strong start. Considering howEA Sports FC 25was one of the best-selling games of 2024, rivaling its player count is a big deal. Sloclap has promised plenty of improvements and new features down the line, too. As cross-play support, an offline mode, and more come to the title, it could make an even bigger splash, though how exactly those updates will pan out remains to be seen.

Regardless of its competition and update schedule,Rematchalready seems like a marked success for Sloclap. Nearing 100,000 concurrent players is no small feat, and that’s only on Steam. It’s worth noting thatRematchwas a day-one Xbox Game Pass title, so it has a chance to make a solid impression on consoles, too. While the game may not have included all the features fans wanted it to at launch, it’s sure to improve as its developers continue to roll out patches.
