It’s now easier to believe a previous leak claiming thatPrototype 3is in development. The first twoPrototypegames were released in 2019 and 2012, respectively, for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The games were then given enhanced ports to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2015, but the franchise has been dormant since then.Prototype 3has not been officially announced at the time of this writing, but there are some rumblings that such a project could very well be in the works.
ThelatestPrototype 3rumorsdate back to a Reddit post from April where a user claimed to have been a part of an Activision “study group.” The user, Bigbyy, has since deleted their post and their account. But the post basically made some claims aboutCall of Duty: Black Ops 7that turned out to be true, and also said thatPrototype 3was mentioned.

Bigbyy claimed thatPrototype 3will see the return of Alex Mercer and will once again be set in New York City, but otherwise didn’t reveal much about the project. Their post was mainly focused on the then-unannouncedCall of Duty: Black Ops 7, claiming that the new game would have a co-op campaign. It has since been revealed thatBlack Ops 7does indeed have a co-op campaign, which has given the rest of the claims added credibility. ForBlack Ops 7, this means that fans may be able to expect remasteredBlack Ops 2Zombies maps and a large-scale 32v32 multiplayer mode, though that has yet to be confirmed.
Prototype 3 ‘Leak’ Seemingly Backed Up By Black Ops 7 Announcement
It’s entirely possible that the Reddit user simply made a lucky guess that just so happened to be accurate. However, it’s not exactly the norm forCall of Dutygames to have co-op campaigns. The vast majority ofCoDcampaignsare single-player only, and in fact, only two main seriesCall of Dutytitles have featured campaign co-op.World at Warwas the first, and 2015’sBlack Ops 3was the latest. It was more likely thatBlack Ops 7wouldnothave co-op, which is why this leak is now being taken more seriously.
Even so, it’s best thatPrototypefans keep their expectations in check and take any claims made about the game with a grain of salt. It has not been announced in any kind of official capacity, and it would be odd for Activision to reveal such a project to a “study group.” ThePrototype 3leak is definitely easier to believe than it was before, but it’s still far from confirmed. Still, there’s always a chancePrototypecould make a comeback. Now that Microsoft owns Activision, thePrototypeIP falls under the Xbox umbrella, and it was previously teased that the backing of Microsoft could see dormant Activision franchises reborn.
