Summary
Pokemon TCG Pockethas a ton of cards for players to pick from to build their perfect decks. But some of these cards, no matter their rarity, tend to escapefrom what is considered meta, and their utility is questionable at best, and null at worst.
In this list, Pokémon Trainers will find a ranking of the most useless cards inPokemon TCG Pocket. From cards that are inefficient in terms of energy cost to abilities that make no sense at all, these cards are the worst of the bunch.
1Komala (Celestial Guardians)
Absolutely Useless Card, No Reason To Have This On Your Deck
Komala from the Celestial Guardians Expansion comes with a pretty unique ability called ‘Comatose,’ which while Komala is in the Active Spot, it will literally make it fall Asleep each time players attach Energy from their Energy Zone to the card. This literally means Komala will spend each turn from the moment players put Energy on it, Asleep. This might be one of the worst Abilities made up to date, but it doesn’t stop there.
Komala’s sole attack is Rolling Tackle, which is a Colorless attack that causes 70 damage, and requires 2 Colorless Energy to be used. That, and the fact that this card has 90 HP, means that it can barely hold 3 turns against 80% of the meta cards inPokemon TCG Pocket. Plus, he will spend 50% of those 3 turns, being asleep, and in the worst case scenario, up to 3 turns before it can even attack. To add insult to injury, it has a high retreat cost (2 Energy) compared the few benefits it brings to any type of composition.
2Mimikyu (Celestial Guardians)
An Attack That Deals Damage To Your Own Benched Pokemon? No Thank You
Mimikyu from the Celestial Guardians Expansion is a Psychic card with only one attack, ‘Shadow Hit,’ which causes 60 damage to an enemy Pokemon, and 20 damage to 1 random ally Pokemon. It requires 1 Psychic and 1 Colorless Energy to be used, and it has absolutely no utility at all.
It is hard to understand how this card could come into play, or synergize with others with abilities that power them up when they take damage. For example, Heatran from Triumphant Light has an ability that causes 40 extra damage when Heatran receives (any) damage. Still, since Mimikyu’s ability hits a random benched card, it doesn’t even work for that purpose. It seems that poor Mimikyu is undesired in its card version as well.
3Skiddo (Genetic Apex)
More than 50% Of The Time, It Does Nothing
Skiddofrom the Genetic Apex collectionhas a particular skill called Surprise Attack, which might do nothing if players are unlucky. Though for a basic card, 40 damage is pretty decent, the fact that players need to flip a coin to see if it does 40 or 0 damage breaks its utility completely.
Even its evolution (Gogoat) cannot escape the inefficiency in its design: It requires one grass and two colorless energies to work. Wasting 3 energy in an attack that deals only 70 Damage, in a Pokemon that has only 120 HP makes no sense at all. So, if you are playingPokemon TCG Pocket, leave Skiddo and its evolution out of your deck.
4Hand Scope (Promo-A)
Negligible Utility, Save The Spot For Better Item Cards
A one-time use Item that will force the opponent to reveal their hand, something that might sound like cheating but that can have its utility. The problem is: any experiencedPokemon TCG Pocketplayer has one or various methods to counter this. Be it Iono (which will force both trainers to shuffle their hands on their decks and draw random cards) or the Red Card Item that will force the opponent to shuffle their hand and draw three cards.
So there, and if that way to counterplay a forced reveal isn’t enough to deter players from using Hand Scope in their decks, think about theincredible assortment of Item Cardsthat are much more powerful than a quick reveal of the rivals' hand. Rare Candy, for example, will accelerate evolution plays and allow players to attack with more powerful moves sooner. Or, a fan favorite that can be used to draw a basic Pokemon Card: The Pokeball.
5Swanna (Genetic Apex)
Energy Inefficiency Is Its Main Defect
Swanna, from the Genetic Apex Expansion, has to be one of the worst Water-type Pokemon cards in the current roster. Let’s start by saying that it has low HP for a Stage 1 Pokemon Card (only 90) and add energy inefficiency to the mix: Its only attack requires 3 colorless energy to be activated, and does only 70 damage.
So, what’s the point of having this in a deck? This card provides no obvious benefits, has no special abilities, and its sole attack causes negligible damage and has a high cost. It is pure and utter deadweight and brings no benefit to any deck.
6Ponyta (Mythical Island)
Ridiculous Low Attack That Has A Chance To Deal Extra Damage
Ponyta from the Mythical Island Expansion might seem like a good idea to add to a Fire-type deck, but its Stomp attack, which causes negligible damage (10), has a chance to cause 40 damage by flipping a coin and getting heads. Needless to say, in a Basic Pokemon with only 60 HP, this means do or die.
If the rival Pokemon has a 40 damage attack, and Ponyta moves first, and fails to cause full 40 damage on the first move, it’s game over for the Fire Horse Pokemon. Even in its evolution, Rapidash has Rising Lunge, an attack that can deal up to 100 damage, but it’s yet another flip-the-coin locked damage boosted move. Save the spot for Fire-type Pokemon with great utility, like Houndour/Houndoom.
7Ditto (Genetic Apex)
Its Ability Doesn’t Make It Any Justice, It’s Another Useless Card
Ditto, the genetic aberration made out ofMew genes found in Guyana, can replicate any living Pokemon by using transform. And inPokemon TCG Pocket,this is represented by its attack ‘Copy Anything,’ which will allow players to copy ‘any attack from the opponent’s active Pokemon,’ as long as it has the required energy for the attack, that is.
This means, that the cost of activating the ability (1 colorless energy) is meaningless if the rival has an ability that costs 3 energy (from any type), as Ditto won’t be able to use the attack, and will waste its turn doing basically nothing. That, and the fact that this Basic Pokemon has only 70 HP doesn’t make it any better.
8Whimsicott (Genetic Apex)
A Lousy Space Filler, With Low HP And Low Attack
Whimsicott is one of the weakest Stage 1 cards in the whole meta. With only 80 HP and its sole attack being Rolling Tackle (causes 40 damage), it doesn’t make sense to have it in any balanced deck.
Grass type has many cards that might look weak at first glance (like Shaymin), but they all have their utility and strengths, like abilities to heal, create a draw engine, or supply quick energy. Having Whimsicott and its previous stage (Cottonee) is a waste of space in a deck that only allows 20 cards.
9Seaking (Genetic Apex)
Another Useless Card That Misses Attacks All The Time
Though it might seem like a useful move at first glance, Horn Hazard from Seaking (Genetic Apex) is one of the most useless water-type attacks, although it is quite cheap to use: It only requires one Water Energy and, if it hits, it deals 80 damage. In a Stage 1 Pokemon that has only 100 HP, an attack that misses half of the time (or more if players are unlucky is a waste of space in their decks.
There are a lot of better options for decent Water types with great moves, like for example Wigglet and Wugtrio Ex, a solid Water Type that can destroy both active and benched Pokemon at the same time. Players should save their decks space for more useful cards, and throw Goldeen and Seaking into the discard pile.
