Summary

The Pokemon Company recently revealed the official release date and box art for the upcomingPokemon Legends: Z-A, and the game’s front cover seems to confirm that Emma, a fan favorite character fromPokemon X and Y, will make an appearance in the title. Players will be making their way back to the Kalos region inPokemon Legends: Z-Afor the first time in over a decade, and the game seems primed to feature many iconic characters, Pokemon, and locations from the Gen 6 titles.

Previousreveal trailers forPokemon Legends: Z-Ahave confirmed that unlikePokemon Legends: Arceus, the game will be taking place in the present day rather than the past. Though this was something of a controversial design choice in the eyes of certain fans, it does giveLegends: Z-Athe opportunity not only to reintroduce Lumiose City after 12 long years, but also further the stories of beloved characters that were first introduced inPokemon X and Y. The immortal A-Z has been confirmed to play a major role inLegends: Z-Aas the owner of a prominent hotel, although it’s very likely that several other characters from the series' past will be present for players to run into around the streets of Lumiose City.

As it turns out, a fan favorite character fromPokemon X and Y’s post-game seems to be featured on thecover art forPokemon Legends: Z-A, despite making no appearance in any of the game’s trailers so far. This character is Emma, a young and lonely girl who has only ever appeared officially in the core-seriesPokemontitles during the post-game content inPokemon X and Y. While not outright confirmed, manyPokemonenthusiasts were quick to pick out one of the characters featured on the game’s box art, who is complete with the very same features and even eye color as Emma.

Emma’s Return in Pokemon Legends: Z-A Would Be Perfectly Fitting

A lot offans have scrutinized many ofPokemon Legends: Z-A’s new charactersin efforts to connect them with other existing ones, and while some fans have also compared the woman on the game’s box art to another Gen 6 character named Sina, Emma’s return in the next title would make perfect sense. For players who may not have playedPokemon X and Y’s endgame or are otherwise just in need of a memory refresh, Emma was living something of a double-life during the story as an assistant to the International Police agent Looker, but also as an unwitting test subject of Team Flare’s Dr. Xerosic.

After Looker left Kalos to fight crime elsewhere in the world, Emma was left in charge of Lumiose City’s Looker Bureau as the town’s protector. It’s likely thatPokemon Legends: Z-Acould shine some light on her life over a decade later and how she may have helped shape the development of Lumiose City, though some fans have speculated thatLooker may also return in the upcomingPokemongameto play a role in the story for the first time since the Gen 7 titles.
