Many fans in thePokemoncommunity agree that there are certain shinies in the series that aren’t too nice to look at, and one fan has redesigned a few of the most controversial additions with their own creative vision. Shiny hunting remains an extremely popular activity in just about all thePokemongames, but even in the latest titles, there are certain species that players scarcely bother searching for due to their particularly ugly or unnatural color combinations.

For a lot of players, shiny hunting has always been a huge part of the experience when it comes to the core series. Existing as a fairly subtle feature ever since the Gen 2Pokemontitles,shinies are extremely rare variations of Pokemonthat have a base chance of 1 in 4096 of appearing in the wild across most modern generations, though they were twice as rare in the older games. They’re usually quite easily identified thanks to their unique color schemes. Shiny Pokemon don’t have much appeal beyond their rarity and don’t bring any advantages to battles, so they’re just fun to seek out and collect more than anything else.

That said, a fewshinies in the world ofPokemonend up looking worsethan their standard counterparts, with some featuring color patterns that are rough on the eyes and others that are just downright ugly to many players. One fan of the series, known as Picklejr08, has shared a few of their least-favorite shinies alongside some reimagined designs, adjusting the colors of certain shiny Pokemon to make them look more appealing. These include a reworked shiny Tyranitar, Espeon, Maushold, Flutter Mane, and Iron Moth, with the Espeon redesign in particular losing its overly-vibrant green and borrowing the colors of a shiny Umbreon instead.

These Pokemon Redesigns Fix Some of the Series' Most Notorious Shinies

For better or worse, shiny hunting is easier than ever nowadays, withPokemon Scarlet and Violetallowing players to simply run around and look for shiny Pokemon in an open-world environment. The Gen 9 games have made some pretty dramatic changes to shiny hunting, with the game’s sandwich power mechanic allowing players to temporarily boost shiny spawn chances. SincePokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Nintendo Switch 2 versionadditionally allows the game to render many more wild Pokemon in the world simultaneously, some fans are even able to effectively farm shiny Pokemon under certain conditions.

Fans have yet to find out howthe upcomingPokemon Legends: Z-Acould shake up the shiny hunting scene, with the next major title taking players back to the Kalos region and featuring a new and improved Lumiose City as its setting. The game’s urban map will feature designated areas that house Pokemon living in the wild, but it wouldn’t be too surprising if the game contains a sparser overall population of wild Pokemon thanScarlet and Violet’s Paldea region.
