Summary
PlayStationis an official partner of the 2025 Summer Game Fest, which could mean Sony fans have some news to look forward to. While E3 has gone the way of the dinosaurs, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest has picked up the torch as the go-to annual event to show off new games and give media and influencers a hands-on look at upcoming titles. This year’s SGF may be particularly noteworthy forPlayStationfans.
Back in January, Keighley announced thatSummer Game Fest 2025 would take place on June 6, starting at 5 PM ET. Like last year, SGF Play Days will follow, which gives in-person invitees a chance to play some of the titles revealed during the presentation. Which studios and franchises have big news planned for the event is still uncertain, but PlayStation could be one to watch.
On May 28, the official Summer Game Fest Twitter account revealed the first round of partners for this year’s event, including PlayStation. While PlayStation is far from the only notable name on the list, its appearance could be a sign that it has big news in store for SGF. Keighley has already confirmed thatHideo Kojima will take the SGF stagethis year, so at the very least, there could be an update onDeath Stranding 2: On the Beachor anotherMetal Geargame. It’s also worth considering that SGF 2025 will take place during PlayStation’s Days of Play event, so the company will be running several sales while the presentation is live, potentially setting the ideal scene for an announcement or two.
PlayStation Is an Official Partner of Summer Game Fest 2025
Sony’s two biggest rivals, Xbox and Nintendo, are also partners, and both have big events of their own around the same time. The Switch 2 drops the day before SGF 2025, and Xbox is holding its annual Game Showcase a couple of days later. While there are rumors thatPlayStation will host a State of Play in June, there’s no official news of a presentation that month from the company. Summer Game Fest could provide the optimal platform to stand out from Xbox and Nintendo’s reveals in lieu of such an event.
A handful of PlayStation-backed games waiting for further details could make ideal candidates for an SGF showing. Insomniac’sMarvel’s Wolverinehas been radio silent for a while now, and there hasn’t been much news onSarossince its reveal in February. Alternatively, Sony could take the time to make a hardware announcement, as the company isrunning big discounts on PS5 consoles and accessoriesduring Days of Play. Of course, nothing is certain for now, and PlayStation is just one of over 60 partners. Still, Summer Game Fest may be worth watching for anyone itching for PlayStation news.
