While fans are always watching the two actors' careers to see what interesting projects they’ve chosen, all eyes are on their Western that is currently in theaters. Although sometimes fans and critics love the same movie, or they’re both critical of certain elements, it’s always fascinating whena popular film has a low Rotten Tomatoes score. In the case of this particular movie, audiences and critics aren’t on the same page.

Fans And Critics Can’t Agree On Pierce Brosnan And Samuel L. Jackson’s The Unholy Trinity

Pierce Brosnan and Samuel L. Jackson are starring inThe Unholy Trinity, which has a 17% Rotten Tomatoes rating and 66% on the Popcornmeter. While critics have given the movie poor reviews so far, the audience comments on the website aren’t as negative.Jackson plays St. Christopher and Brosnan plays Sheriff Gabriel Dove, and the movie is set in Montona in the 1870s.

Whilea space Western can stand outand tell a unique story, critics didn’t feel that the plot ofThe Unholy Trinitywas anything to write home about. Although the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes suggest thatThe Unholy Trinityis dull, disappointing, and not worth checking out, not every fan feels the same way. One fan wrote:

“Great story line, good actors, fit the characters perfectly, cinematography was excellent.”

Another fan praised the actors and wrote, “If you like westerns, this one is decent. Samuel Jackson is amazing as always. Pierce Brosnan held his own, and it was nice to see him back on the big screen.” Althoughothers called it “boring” or were critical of the ending, audience reviews weren’t as harsh. Many people consider it a middle-of-the-road and entertaining enough film.

The Unholy Trinityhasn’t been a huge box office success, at least not at the time of this writing. According toBox Office Mojo,the film’s worldwide gross is $559,610 so far.

Jackson’s WesternThe Hateful Eight, which was directed by Quentin Tarantino, was much better received and is considered one ofthe most memorable Western movies released in the 21st century. There are also plenty ofWesterns directed by Clint Eastwoodandseveral Western animated showsthat many would likely recommend overThe Unholy Trinity.

Director Richard Gray came close to winningProject Greenlight Australiaand, after several thrillers, decided to take on the Western genre. His previous movies includeMurder at Yellowstone City,Broken Ghost, andSugar Mountain. Gray toldFilm Review Dailythatthe genre is “cyclical” as Westerns are more popular at certain times and less beloved at othersand gaveYellowstonecreator Taylor Sheridana shout-out. He also praised the acting talents of Brosnan and Jackson and said:

“It’s great when you’re talking to Pierce or Sam about a scene, and you’ve got your ideas, but usually their ideas are better. They’ll take your ideas and try to do something with them… There’s just an aura around those guys that’s hard to properly explain when you’re dealing with legends of cinema. It was just really exciting.”

The Unholy Trinitywas released on June 13th, 2025and fans of Westerns can check it out and see if they agree with audiences or critics.
