Overwatch 2has officially confirmed a collaboration withG.I. Joeis coming in Season 17. This crossover wasn’t mentioned in any blog posts, and only subtly teased in the trailer, making it one of the more low-key, quietly-revealed collaborations inOverwatch 2history.
Ever sinceOverwatch 2’s first external IP collaboration withOne Punch Man, Blizzard has done at least one crossover event each season. However, unlike most others, theOverwatch 2Season 17 trailerdidn’t feature a stinger at the end directly teasing any collaborations, leading many to assume there would not be one.
Blizzard later corrected that misconception in one of the most casual ways possible. Not long after dropping the trailer,Overwatch 2shared an infographic on Twitter featuring some of the highlights of Season 17, including a crossover betweenOverwatch 2andG.I. Joe, the American media and action figure franchise. Though Blizzard shared nothing else besides a few coy remarks to fans in the comments, it did confirm the crossover would be coming in Season 17.
Overwatch 2 x G.I. Joe Crossover Coming in Season 17
Hawk-eyed players who viewed theOverwatch 2Season 17 trailer then discovered that there was in fact a teaser for this crossover hidden within it the whole time, though it wasn’t as obvious as they were used to. At the 1:16 mark of the video,Overwatch 2’s own cyborg ninja Genjican be seen using a skin that looks like Snake Eyes fromG.I. Joe, heavily suggesting it will be one of the cosmetics in the collaboration.
Beyond Snake Eyes, there are manyG.I. Joecharacters who have seemingly obvious parallels inOverwatch 2. Duke Soldier: 76, Roadblock Baptiste, Scarlett Freja, Baroness Sombra, Zartan Hanzo, and Cobra Commander Ramattra are just a few of the most popular skin concepts the community has suggested so far, but fans will have to wait untilBlizzard officially reveals the collab skinsto see which ones make the cut.
G.I. Joeisn’t the only franchise that might have been teased in theOverwatch 2Season 17 trailer. Around the same part of the video, the screen suspiciously focuses on a Nerf football, along with some ammo darts. While nothing has been confirmed yet, this could be a hint for another collaboration, possibly in the form of some Nerf-themed Weapon skins for various heroes.
Also of note, the infographic that revealed theG.I. Joecollaboration gave a name to the Season 18 hero: Wuyang. CodenamedAqua during his initial reveal during theOverwatch 2Spotlight, players can expect a trial for this water-themed Chinese support hero in Season 17 ahead of his release in a couple of months.
