Summary
Avengers: Doomsdayhas a loaded ensemble filled with some of the biggest stars in the Marvel Cinematic Universe from a wide range of movies. That includes Paul Rudd from theAnt-Mantrilogy, who will be reprising his role once again. This is likely to see him involved in a new-look version of The Avengers under Sam Wilson’s leadership.
However, with Rudd confirmed to be part of the film, it has led to question marks about the widerAnt-Mancast. Throughout the previous three movies, Marvel Studios has put together a mini team of sorts who have all played a key role in the story; therefore, there are a lot of possibilities for other members of that world to be involved inAvengers: Doomsday.
Kathryn Newton, Michelle Pfeiffer, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael Douglas have all played significant roles in theAnt-Manstandalone movies, and there will be fans hoping to see some of them reprise theirroles inAvengers: Doomsday. While it’s unclear if any will be part of the upcoming film, one person who has ruled themselves out of the running is Douglas. During an interview withDeadline, he ruled himself out of any future work with Marvel Studios.
He said, “I don’t think so. I had the experience, and I was excited to do it. I’d never done a green screen picture before. I did theTheKominsky Methodbecause I wanted to work with Chuck Lorre and try some comedy. But I’m enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life. It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time.”
The veteran actor has portrayed the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym, throughout the MCU. His character plays a key role in developing Scott Lang while playing a key role in the multiverse due to his creation of Pym Particles, allowing access to the Quantum Realm. This has allowed for a lot of time travel and multiverse movement within the franchise, so it would make sense for him tobe part ofAvengers: Doomsday. The blockbuster, which the Russo Brothers are directing, is set to explore the multiverse in more detail than ever before. Still, it will have to do so without Douglas, who is busy enjoying a hiatus from acting after a lengthy career.
Had Marvel Studios followed its initial plans for the next Avengers movie, things could have been very different. The original plans would have seen Kang as themajor villain inAvengers: The Kang Dynasty, which would have madeAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniaa crucial movie, given that Kang was introduced in that film. Marvel may have wanted the entireAnt-Mancast to be involved in continuing that.
Ultimately, Pym is only a supporting character within the MCU, being someone who has helped build Rudd’s storyline. Ina movie likeAvengers: Doomsday, his presence will not be missed as badly due to how large the cast already is and the major personalities that are set to be involved. On top of that, Marvel didn’t leave any unanswered questions regarding this character. Therefore, it won’t frustrate fans too badly not to see him again. However, it’s always important not to completely buy into any comments about future MCU appearances by actors due to the need for secrecy in these films. Therefore, it won’t be a massive surprise if Pym appears again inAvengers: Doomsday, even if all the signs are pointing toward that not happening.
