Summary
Ever since the early chapters ofOne Piece’sElbaf arc, the topic of Loki’s Devil Fruit was brought up, sending fans wild with theorizing. The nature of this fruit remains a mystery, with the only details that fans know of it being the fact that it is the only Devil Fruit in the story that has been described as legendary, and, somehow, turns Loki into Sun God Nika. This was a reveal that took everyone by surprise since Luffy was thought to have claimed this role.
Although some of the most popular theories regarding this fruit inOne Piececlaim that it’s something else entirely, all doubts can be cleared up as to it being a Nika fruit, since Loki is a Giant who would know Nika when he sees him. On the other hand, fans are still unsure about what this fruit could end up looking like, but this article explains why theanswer to Loki’s Devil Fruithas been in front of our faces this whole time.
Story Arc
Elbaf
Even before his first full appearance was made in the story, Loki was built up as the greatest foe that the island of Elbaf had ever seen. His strength was described as monstrous and his personality made it seem as if he wassome sort of maniacal villainwho wanted nothing more than to cause destruction wherever he went, which was further backed up by his backstory of leading a rebellion against his father and killing him in the process.
Here, he managed to steal the powerful Devil Fruit of the Elbaf Royal Family, which is implied to be one of the greatest in the entire story as it’s the only Devil Fruit aside from Luffy’s that has been described as ‘legendary’. For one, when this fruit was first spoken about, the revelation of the First and Second Worlds was also made, which, along with its description of being a Nika fruit, caused fans to theorize about it being a particularly powerful Devil Fruit that somehow turned Loki into Surtr or a similarly powerful being from Norse mythology.
I am the Sun God who will bring about the end of the world!
However, it should be noted that this fruit is most likely the ‘Destroyer Nika’ Mythical Zoan, and that the transformation that Loki undergoes upon using it only turns him into Nika. It is not actually the ‘Surtr’ or ‘Fenrir’ Mythical Zoan as some may think.Being a Giant of Elbaf, Loki has a much greater knowledge of the legends of Sun God Nika than most people around the world, so if his Devil Fruit turned him into anything aside from the Sun God, he would know it. It can be surmised that this fruit is another version of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.
So, the conversation then switches to the form that this Zoan transformation can take. Due to the kind of Devil Fruit it is and how it is being built up, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that Loki’s Mythical Zoan form looks very similar to Luffy’s Gear 5 form. However, Loki’s strongest form will likely take design elements from none other than the most popular Norse God of them all; Thor.
The reason for this is because of the contextual clues surrounding Loki himself. Firstly, he is the prince of the country of Elbaf, which is basicallyOne Piece’sversion of the Old Norse world. Secondly, Loki wields amassive and powerful hammer called Ragnirwhich is so heavy and strong that no one else can wield it. This, along with the fact that it can summon powerful torrents of lightning that can burn down the Adam Tree, clearly draws a parallel to Thor’s mythical hammer, Mjölnir.
If all of these connections are something to go by, it can be seen that Oda is establishing a very clear connection between Thor and Loki so that fans can have a bit of an idea about what to expect with Loki’s Mythical Zoan form. While, at this point, it’s equally possible for such a transformation to look like Surtr, which many fans are inclined to believe, due to Loki’s desire to destroy the world, him taking the form of Thor would be way more poignant.
What’s Loki’s Future At The End Of The Elbaf Arc?
From A Villain To A Hero
When Loki was finally free from his chains, he implied something that fans had theorized ever since his first appearance, which is that he’s not as evil as he claims and thathe was framed for Harald’s death. This would be instrumental in his character development, since most believe that he will eventually turn to the side of the heroes towards the end of the arc, serving more as a protector of the island rather than its destroyer.
At the current moment, as of Chapter 1150, Imu has finally made their debut on the island, transforming some of the island’s greatest warriors into incredibly powerful demons. At the current moment, the heroes are in a bad state, but it’s implied that Luffy will fight Imu while the remaining Straw Hats and Elbaf warriors will take on the Gods' Knights and Kilingham’s apparitions respectively. If this is the case, then Loki, in his overpowered Nika state, will likely face the demonic versions of Dorry and Brogy, becoming one of Elbaf’s greatest protectors in the process.
