The Roger Pirates were the most dominant pirate crew of the post-Rocks era. The crew was able to successfully navigate the perilous waters of the Grand Line, not once but twice en route to reaching Laugh Tale and finding the One Piece. Like any other pirate crew inOne Piece, the Roger Pirates relied on the big names to do the heavy lifting.
The most noteworthymembers of the Roger Pirates were Gol D. Roger, Silvers Rayleigh, and Scopper Gaban. As the captain of the crew, Roger was the strongest and the most influential crew member. Rayleigh and Gaban were his two hands, who were equal in terms of strength. But there is one major difference between the two One Piece legends.
Scopper Gaban And Silvers Rayleigh Are Equal In Terms Of Strength
There is much debate about the strength of Gaban and Rayleigh. Many fans believe Rayleigh is stronger because he was the right-hand man of Gol D. Roger. However, that isn’t the case, and Oda has clearly stated that Gaban and Rayleigh were equal in terms of strength. This particular claim has been backed by Gaban’s display in Elbaf. Despite being well over 60 years old, Scopper Gaban’s physical abilities are on a completely different level from those of most characters in One Piece. He can lift keys made for Giants with ease, and it doesn’t seem to hinder his movement at all.
Another piece of evidence ishow Gaban was able to overwhelm the Holy Knightseffortlessly. It has been well-established that the Holy Knights are at the level of Admirals, if not higher. They are able to withstand powerful attacks because of their regenerative abilities. Additionally, they possess top-tier Devil Fruits that decimate an entire nation’s army with ease.
Scopper Gaban was able to take on Shepherd Sommers without any problems. In fact, he bypassed Sommers' regenerative abilities and defeated him in next to no time. This was a massive feat, and it cemented his status as one of the strongest characters in the series.
The Big Difference Between Gaban And Rayleigh
Scopper Gaban has been in the headlinesin the last few chapters of One Piece. The legendary pirate has been involved in many important events in Elbaf, but none more so than the most recent one involving his son. After beating Sommers, Gaban headed to Gunko’s location, as that’s where the children were being kept. Gaban was confident that he could beat Gunko. As he got near the location, Collun got excited and blurted out that his dad was going to rescue them.
Don’t do it. I yield. —Scopepr Gaban
Gunko took full advantage of the information, and she swooped in and captured Collun. Gaban knew that he had to be quick; otherwise, Collun would die. He used Advanced Observation Haki before attacking and saw Gunko impaling Collun. Naturally, he couldn’t bear to watch his son die in front of his eyes, so he yielded. Gunko realized that it was a massive opportunity, and she took full advantage of it. She attacked Gaban with several arrows, which pierced his body.
Gaban Is A Family Man Who Has Been With Ripley For Over 10 Years
This moment shows thedifference between Rayleigh’s and Gaban’s lifestyles. After the crew disbanded, Rayleigh stayed in Sabaody Archipelago with Shakky, but it doesn’t seem that he has stayed loyal to her. Despite being husband and wife, Rayleigh doesn’t seem to be interested in staying with Shakuyaku. In fact, the latter told the Straw Hats that Rayleigh might be with other women.
Gaban is the complete opposite of Rayleigh in this regard. He has been with Ripley for 20 years, and he even has a son with her, namely Collun. Gaban is more of a family man than Rayleigh, and he will willingly die to protect them. Of course, this doesn’t make Rayleigh a bad character, but it shows how different he is from Gaban. Despite their differences, the two make an excellent team, and in their prime, they werecomparable to the Yonko themselves.
