One Pieceis currently in the Elbaf arc, and with each passing chapter, the story is moving closer to its end. Fans know very well that from here onwards, there isn’t long left before Oda reveals all the biggest mysteries of the world.
However, there are some mysteries that fans are more interested in than others. One of them pertains to the protagonist ofOne Piece, Monkey D. Luffy, and his family. As fans know, Luffy is the son of the Revolutionary Dragon, who is known as the World’s Worst Criminal. However, little to nothing is known about his mother. That said, Oda has already revealed bits and pieces about her in the story so far.
Oda Has Already Got Plans For Luffy’s Mom
When it comes to Luffy’s family, fans know very little. It wasn’t until the post-Enies Lobby events that fans found out that Luffy even had parents around. Dragon was revealed by Garp to be Luffy’s father, but nothing was said about his mother. Naturally, fans were intrigued by who she was and asked Oda long ago. This is what he had to say:
Q: What was Luffy’s mother like? Was she beautiful? What happened to her? Did she die when Luffy was a baby?
Oda: I think she’s alive. I’m still thinking hard about this. [Laughs]
But if she does appear in the story, then she’ll be a very tough-looking woman. And strict. There’s no way that she’s a beautiful mother. She’s got this typical middle-aged woman’s permed hair.
There are two possibilities to consider here. The first is that Oda wants to introduce Luffy’s mother in the story at a later time and is saving her for a big reveal. This is a very likely possibility, especiallysince Dragon’s flashback and Luffy’s birthhaven’t been covered in the story yet. Given the importance of Luffy’s birth and Dragon’s past, it is clear that when these two characters meet, Oda will reveal important details. It is at this point that he’ll go on to reveal the truth about Luffy’s mom.

The second possibility is that Oda has already revealed Luffy’s mom, and it is none other than Dadan. Oda might not draw Luffy’s biological mom at all. After all, he has previously shown that blood relations aren’t all that important inOne Piece. Here’s what Oda has to say about blood relations:
Speaking about families,I did a backstory of Nico Robin and her family. That was actually the first time for me to draw a mother in a character’s memory. Up until that point, I’d never drawn a blood relation. There were cases where you call someone who’s not blood-related your mother. In Chopper’s case, he’s called a son even though he’s not blood-related. So I’ve put in a message there saying that you can still call someone who’s not related by blood your family.
Luffy’s Mom Could Be A Revolutionary
Oda Might’ve Included Her In His Manga Already
Another interesting idea is that Oda has already drawn his mom. This is especially supported by Oda’s message in aOne PieceSBS, where he was asked about Luffy’s parents.
D: “Oda-sensei!! I have a serious question. Will you ever draw Luffy’s parents?” P.N. Mr. Uni, Age 16
O: “His parents? Well, I think you will be pleased with the next volume. Get excited!”
It was shortly after this that Oda revealed more about characters like Dragon and Dadan, but it is also possible thatOda has already drawn Luffy’s real mom, and that he has hidden her in plain sight among the Revolutionary Army members. If that is the case, then the Final Saga will surely give the fans the answer to this question.
One Piece Chapter 1152 will be out in two weeks. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday.
