One Pieceiscurrently in the Final Saga, which means that the story is now nearing its end. It is no surprise to know thatOne Piecewill end in the next few years, and that only means that Luffy will soon fight his biggest battles in the story. At the same time, it also means that Luffy will get closer than ever before to the One Piece and then go on to claim it.
Luffy’s progression will eventually bring upon the fans the Great War, and finally, the conclusion of the story, where the world will finally be freed from the clutches of the Celestial Dragons. As Luffy continues on his journey, there is one question that fans have desperately wanted to know the answer to, and it concerns his fate at the end of the story. Luffy could very well die at the end of One Piece, just like the former Pirate King, and Oda has already sown the seeds for it.
Why Luffy Could Potentially Die At The End
Luffy is very strong, and there is no denying that. Much of his strength comes from his tenacity.Luffy never gives up, and often, to win battles, he pushes himself beyond all limits. This has happened on many occasions so far. Fans have seen Luffy push himself against Crocodile, then Lucci, Moria, and again on Sabaody. Marineford and Impel Down destroyed Luffy’s body on another level, and all that is to say that his body has taken a beating over the years.

Luffy’s Life Is Running Short
After Luffy overused Gear 2 Vs Lucci, he himself knew that he was shortening his lifespan using the technique. When Luffy used Gear 2 and 3 at the same time against Moria,the Straw Hats were worriedthat he was shortening his life by doing so. Similarly, Luffy lost 5 years of his life to be cured from Magellan’s poison, and then he took more shots from Ivankov during the war, boosting his powers more at the cost of his life.
AlthoughLuffy has learned to control Gear 2,3, and 4to a point where he doesn’t overexert himself anymore, Gear 5 is a different story altogether. Luffy fought Kaido in Wano, and when he forced himself to re-enter Gear 5, Kaido clearly stated that if he pushed himself too much, he would die. To this, Luffy responded by saying that they’d all become bones anyway.

Will Luffy Die In One Piece?
Clearly,Oda has established a plot pointwhere Luffy could potentially die in One Piece due to his worsening physical condition. But will Luffy really die? The answer is likely no. Luffy dying would be a major failure for Chopper, who wants to cure all diseases in the world. If Luffy ever does get sick, which he likely will, it will be Chopper’s time to shine and save his life. Besides, Oda wants to end One Piece with a big party, and that’ll be impossible without Luffy.
I’ve already decided on the last panel and how the last chapter will be. In the final saga, I’ll focus on not only the Straw Hats but also on events happening in the whole world. The problem is how many years it will take to start the final saga. – Eiichiro Oda
