Imu’s introduction dates back to the Reverie arc, which was illustrated in the manga about 7 years ago now. Since their first introduction seven years ago, Oda has not shown much about this mysterious figure that secretly rules the world, that is, until the Elbaf arc. In Elbaf, Imu finally made a move. By controlling the body of Holy Knight Gunko, Imu was able to indirectly take action in Elbaf.
This version ofImu that’s taken over Gunkois most likely not even their strongest, and is likely to be very nerfed. Nevertheless, Imu-Gunko is insanely powerful, strong enough to one-shot pirates worth a combined 3.6 billion berries.
Not only that, after defeating Dorry and Brogy with ease, Imu took control of them and forced them into a demonic contract.
Seeing all of this, it’s not that surprising to say that Imu is the most powerful character in the story. For Luffy to take them down will not be an easy task as the Nika before Luffy, Joy Boy, failed at this, despite being far stronger than the current Luffy. To even have a chance at defeating Imu, Luffy absolutely needs one character on his side.

Shirahoshi is an essential key to the final saga, yet is often overlooked by the fandom. Shirahoshi was revealed a while ago, back in the Fishman Island arc, to be one of the three ancient weapons, the one known as Poseidon. Poseidon is most likelythe Sea God revealed in Elbaf’s Harley, and will play a major role in taking down Imu.

Fans should also remember that a major reason why Roger could not take on Imu and the World Government when he was alive is due to Poseidon not being born. Roger was too early,and Shirahoshi was yet to be born.
How Shirahoshi will help is to be seen, but she is definitely one of the most important characters. Luffy stands no chance against Imu without her on his side. This implies that the battle in Elbaf will be stalled, and Imu could be forced out of Gunko’s body due to the vessel not being strong enough, setting the grounds for an even bigger battle to come.
