Summary

One could argue that there are not many differences between the original game andOblivion Remastered, at least when it comes to quest steps and potential rewards. With over 250 quests to tackle inOblivion Remastered, including those from the main quest and side quests, as well as the various quests from the game’s DLC, it’s only natural that some may be harder to complete than others. While this may apply to a mechanic level in some instances, such as how one may struggle to defeat some Arena fighters at high levels and on high difficulties, or how one may lack the gold to buy homes in each town, other quests can be hard in terms of choices.

It’s also virtually impossible to complete all quests on a single playthrough, as some conflict with one another, but a single character can still finish most of them. For example, some players may not know that there are “secret” quests tied to eachDaedric Prince inOblivion Remastered, for a total of 15 different quests with unique rewards. One cannot technically have all the Daedric artifacts in the game either, as one must be given to Martin during the main questline. Still, one of these quests faces players with a very difficult choice, and completion of the quest itself may be at stake.

Why Hircine’s Quest in Oblivion Remastered is a Moral Dilemma

Among the Daedric Princes in the game is Hircine, also known as the Huntsman or Lord of the Hunt. Hircine’s dominion is that of the hunt, considered a sport by the Daedra, and he has a dedicated realm of Oblivion called the Hunting Grounds. As such, it doesn’t come as a surprise thatHircine’s quest inOblivion Remasteredis all about hunting down a rare creature - namely, a unicorn.

There is only one unicorn inOblivion Remastered, and it resides in the Harcane Grove. Players who find themselves in the process of completing Hircine’s quest will be tasked with finding and killing the unicorn, only to then bring its horn to Hircine for a reward - theSaviour’s Hide cuirass. However, since the unicorn is the only one of its kind and does not respawn when killed, completing Hircine’s quest also means that players will never be able to see a unicorn again. This creature cannot exactly be tamed and added to the roster of “Horses Owned” a player has, but one can still ride the unicorn by sneaking behind it and interacting with it.

Some roleplayers could argue that killing the unicorn is wrong, whereas others may embrace the quest. There is no right or wrong answer, and that’s why the quest can be a moral dilemma.

Considering how rare the creature is, and seeing how this magical beast essentially acts as a free mount (though it will always return to the Grove when players are not riding it), killing it may not be as easy as it may appear at first. This also applies from a gameplay perspective, as the unicorn is quite powerful, and it will be difficult to kill even at low levels. On top of that, the reward for killing the unicorn is not amazing. The Saviour’s Hide grants Resist Magic 25%, which can be very powerful as a stat as theBreton and The Lord combo inOblivion Remasteredproves, but it’s far from unique.

Why Saviour’s Hide May Not Be Worth It in Oblivion Remastered

Bretons start with Resist Magic 50%, The Lord Birthsign provides 15% of the same stat, and the notoriousMundane Ring inOblivion Remasteredprovides another 50%. The Crown of Lindai can also give players up to 35% Resist Magic, for example, but there are even more sources of this stat i the game. These include:

As such, not countingTranscendent Sigil Stones from Gates of Oblivion, which can give another 20% Resist Magic on any piece of gear, the Saviour’s Hide cuirass doesn’t seem all that special anymore, whereas the unicorn is a one-of-a-kind type of creature. SinceOblivion Remasteredis a single-player RPG, players can choose whichever outcome they prefer with little impact on the rest of the game, but the quest remains a moral dilemma, even just from a reward perspective.
