The fairly recent release ofThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredstands as one of the most surprising projects in recent memory, with Bethesda essentially shadow-dropping the game extremely closely to its initial announcement.Rumors of anOblivion Remastercirculated online weeks ahead of time, but it’s still hard to believe because of how often that rumor rears its head. To then shadow drop after a presentation (which was just announced the day before) made it easily one of the biggest surprises of the year.

Above all else, many players valued the immense graphical upgrades seen withinThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, as well as how the game stayed faithful to its original predecessor. The project was co-developed by Virtuos and Bethesda, with many seeing this as a huge win for Virtuos. The studio quickly built up a good standing for itself with the successful and well-received launch ofOblivionRemastered, and recent rumors suggest that the studio may be at the helm of some exciting upcoming content forCyberpunk 2077.

Oblivion Remastered Studio Could Be Working on a New Cyberpunk 2077 DLC

Being founded in 2004, Virtuos has made a name for itself as a studio that often works collaboratively with other major AAA entities within the gaming industry, with its recent work onOblivion Remasteredbeing a testament to this. The studio often works on projects that are remasters or remakes of beloved popular titles, having involvement in the likes ofAssassin’s Creed:The Ezio Collectionand eventhe upcoming release ofMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, among a wide range of other projects.

The studio recently worked alongside CD Projekt Red for some post-launch content for the belovedCyberpunk 2077, with Virtuos co-developing the game’s 2.2 update. The 2.2 update brought in a lot of fresh content like expanded vehicle and player customization, alongside general gameplay improvements and features like an overhauled Photo Mode. No doubt, the 2.2 update has built up a lot of anticipation forCyberpunk 2077’s 2.3 update. With this working relationship only growing stronger, some recent developments have led many to think that Virtuos is working on a new, full-blownCyberpunk 2077DLC.

Specifically, fans were quick to notice some LinkedIn information from a Virtuos Senior Writer that essentially impliesVirtuos is working with CDPR on aCyberpunk 2077DLC. After gaining some traction, this publicly available information was quickly removed, but not before inspiring the rumor mill. It all makes sense and would fit in line with CDPR’s improved reputation since the launch ofCyberpunk 2077.

That’s all good and well, but the surprise and star here is Virtuos. They are veterans of the industry, but not household names. Seeing that name attached to such projects, alongside their other work, is impressive enough as it is. The fact that Virtuos would play some role in not only theOblivion RemasteredDLC, but alsoMGS: Snake EaterAND aCyberpunk 2077DLC is a pedigree many studios could only wish for. Plus, if this DLC meets expectations, then that’s just further proof of Virtuos' strengths in the industry. They are trying to capture three lightning strikes in a bottle, if this rumor is true, when two would be more than sufficient.

According to CD Projekt Red,Phantom Libertyitself has sold over 10 million copies to date, being a testament to just how popularCyberpunk 2077has remained over the years.

While this rumored Virtuos-led DLC forCyberpunk 2077is unlikely to be as expansive asPhantom Liberty’scontent, it is going to be some time before fans see a sequel to the game, and there are still many ways for Night City to be fleshed out beyond what is currently available to players. Of course, the source of these rumors could be explained away as a simple error or misunderstanding, yet it seems very possible that Virtuos could be doing some development work for Cyberpunk 2077 as CDPR prepares its other projects. Overall, fans will just have to wait and see, but it will be interesting if Virtuos can capture so much lightning in a bottle.
