Xbox Game Passis on a frankly absurd hot streak right now. Arguably, this hot streak began all the way back in September of last year with the day-one launches ofAge of Mythology: RetoldandFrostpunk 2, which were quickly followed byCall of Duty: Black Ops 6a month later. This streak continued all the way to the end of the year thanks to games likeSTALKER 2andIndiana Jones and the Great Circle, and that momentum has only continued to pick up throughout the first half of 2025, withBlue Prince,Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, andElder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredall hittingXbox Game Passon day one.
Microsoft has just officially unveiled the entirety ofXbox Game Pass' June 2025 line-up, and it doesn’t look like that hot streak is ending anytime soon.FBC: Firebreakhas just hit Game Pass today, and Sloclap’sRematchis a few days out. But one of the most exciting Xbox Game Pass titles for June is actually a title from 2017, not necessarily because of the game itself (though it’s really solid), but because of what it could represent for its entire franchise.
Call of Duty: WW2 Should Open the Floodgates for the Franchise on Xbox Game Pass
Call of Duty’s History With Xbox Game Pass So Far
From the moment Microsoft announced its plans toacquire Activision-Blizzard in January 2022,Call of Dutyfans were hopeful they’d get to see the franchise come to Xbox Game Pass. It took a little time, but the first domino fell in June 2024, whenCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3(2023) came to the subscription service. Though it’s far from the most beloved entry in the franchise’s long history, it was still a huge deal for fans.
In October 2024,Call of Duty: Black Ops 6hit Xbox Game Pass, marking the very firstCall of Dutyto come to the service on day one.Black Ops 6was met with an incredibly positive reception from critics and fans alike, and it was an undeniable win for Game Pass, with it being thebiggest Game Pass debut ever. But evenCall of Duty: Black Ops 6wasn’t enough to satiate fans who knew the full extent of what they could have.
The newly announcedCall of Duty: Black Ops 7will also be coming to Xbox Game Pass on launch day.
Call of Duty: WW2 Is a Step in the Right Direction
On June 18, 2025,Call of Duty: WW2is coming to Xbox Game Pass. It might be hard to believe, butCall of Duty: WW2is almost a decade old now, and it’ll mark the firstCoDentry on Game Pass that hasn’t been originally released in the last few years. It might be a bit of an odd place to start, but it finally seems like Xbox Game Pass is taking its first steps towards bringing the rest of the franchise to the table.
Call of Duty Still Has a Long Way to Go on Game Pass
But that journey is a long, winding path that stretches all the way back to the early 2000s. There are18 mainlineCall of Dutygamesleft to come to Xbox Game Pass, and while there are definitely entries that fans would prefer to see right away (the earlyModern WarfareandBlack Opstitles), it’d be great to see the entireCall of Dutyfranchise on Game Pass in the coming year or two.
