A reliable insider has claimed that the heavily-rumoredGod of Warspin-off game may have slipped to 2026. Rumors surrounding thisGod of Warside project originally alleged that the game could launch in the latter half of 2025, but this seems increasingly unlikely now.
Around theGod of Warfranchise’s 20th birthdayin March 2025, industry insiders began circulating reports of a new entry that will take the series back to its formative setting: Greece. Given that the last GreekGod of Wartitle was 2013’sGod of War: Ascension- following which the franchise pivoted to a Norse setting with the 2018 reboot - many fans speculated that this rumored new game was a remake of the 2005 original. If more recent rumors are to be believed, though, the newGod of Wargame is something completely alien to the franchise, and could release later than initially anticipated.
Earlier this month, it was claimed by numerous sources that thenewGod of Wargame is a 2.5D Metroidvania-esque spin-offset in Greece, that too with Deimos - Kratos' long-lost brother - as the protagonist in a prequel adventure that takes place before Kratos ascended to godhood. Interesting as it does sound, the chances of a 2025 launch for thisGod of Warspin-off appear very slim, as notable industry insider Jeff Grubb stated in a recent episode of the Last of the Nintendogs podcast that the game has beeninternally delayed to 2026.
Rumored God of War Side Project Reportedly Pushed to 2026
Fears of a delay began forming among fans when theGod of Warspin-off was completely absent from the June 2025 State of Play and Summer Game Fest livestreams, which typically showcase games releasing later in the year. Now, it appears highly likely that the newGod of Wargame will be part ofPlayStation’s 2026 first-party slate, which currently comprisesSarosandMarvel Tokon: Fighting Soulsas official confirmations, whileWolverine,Marathon, andFairgamesare unconfirmed, but likely to join them too.
Grubb didn’t elaborate on the reason behind the delay, but the popular theory right now is that thenewGod of Wargamedidn’t feature any voice acting due to its small scope, and Santa Monica Studio may have decided to add it in fairly recently. Therefore, the additional time granted by the delay could be for signing on voice actors and recording lines. Ultimately, though, this is all speculation about a game that hasn’t even been confirmed to exist, so fans should keep expectations in check.
