Due toThe Sandman’s incredible success with comic book audiences and, in turn, earning itself a very healthy score of 88% onRotten Tomatoes,theNetflix series was renewed for a second season. Its return has been a long time coming, but as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait, and just looking atThe Sandman’s cast, it seems as though the wait will be worth it. Based on Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed graphic novel series, which ran from 1989 to 1996, the supernatural fantasy drama tells the story of Morpheus, one of the seven Endless, who is captured in an occult ritual for over a hundred years. Upon finally escaping his cruel environment, Morpheus sets out with a determined plan to restore order to his realm, the Dreaming.
Netflix Reveals The Sandman’s Final Season 2 Trailer Before Its Summer Release
OnNetflix’s YouTube channel, the network has revealed its high-octane trailer forThe Sandmanseason 2and, if trailers are anything to go by, Morpheus' return to the dreamworld will be even more epic than ever before. The almost 2 minute-long intense clip showcases Dream’s journey to fiery hell to meet face to face with Lucifer Morningstar, who is played byGame of ThronesandSeverancestar Gwendoline Christie, in a bid to save the life of a trapped soul.
The trailer also shows that Lucifer is never too far away as he waits with bated breath for his chance of revenge. Fans will also notice in the trailer the return ofJenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, as well as a quick look at Jack Gleeson (best known for his role as Joffrey inGame of Thrones) as Puck. However, towards the end of the trailer, Morpheus can be seen talking to another character, revealing that “dreaming will survive even if I do not,” which seems like an obvious hint that the end has truly come for the anthropomorphic being.
Previously, fans got to see othernew members joinThe Sandmanseason 2 cast, with Esmé Creed-Miles joining as Delirium, Adrian Lester as Destiny, and Barry Sloane as “The Prodigal.”The Sandmanseason two will also be approaching Neil Gaiman’s graphic-novel series a bit differently this time around by reworking the narrative to hone in on Dream’s perspective of events more, while allowing the rest of the cast to stitch other fantastical stories around him.
The SandmanSeason 2 Volume 1 will release via Netflix on July 23, 2025, and Volume 2 is scheduled for release on July 30, 2025.
